Ashutosh Sharma’s astonishing 66 off 31 balls was enough to secure Delhi Capitals a stunning one-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants at Dr YSR ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Monday, making it a thrilling highlight in the Delhi Capitals Vs Lucknow Super Giants Match Scorecard.
Pooran was featured alongside Vipraj Nigam in an exciting second-wicket stand of 87 but, just when Pooran seemed on course to score his maiden IPL century, Mitchell Starc struck back with an audacious fuller delivery that hit off-stump with 140 clicks fuller force and bowler Stuart Broad broke it away to dismiss Pooran with ease.

1. Nicholas Pooran
West Indies batsman Christopher Martin tore through Delhi bowlers with a spectacular display of attacking batting on an exciting Visakhapatnam pitch that appeared ideally suited for hitting sixes and fours. He forged an 87-run partnership with Mitchell Marsh during the second innings to lead LSG to an admirable total.
Marsh was an early force, scoring 43 from 19 balls – his highest powerplay score ever. Pooran then showed his dominance by racing to 75 from 30 deliveries in only 13 overs to take their game beyond 210.
DC’s bowlers did their best to limit LSG’s run chase, yet even their efforts weren’t enough to prevent a sudden shift in fortune for both teams during the second innings. It was truly a match of two halves; LSG scoring more runs in their second innings than in their first only served to illustrate their struggles further.
DC and LSG may only recently formed their rivalry, but it has already produced some thrilling battles. Both sides have been evenly matched, with top-order batsman DC playing an equal part and disciplined bowlers like LSG bowling effectively at both ends – each match becoming an emotional battleground between top order batsmen DC and disciplined bowlers like LSG. Their high stakes clash at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium should prove no different as both sides aim to level their head-to-head records against each other!
2. Mohammed Shami
Lucknow Super Giants made their IPL debut in 2022 and have maintained an upper tier presence ever since, though winning remains out of their grasp. Led by Rishabh Pant and coached by Justin Langer, this franchise owned by RPSG Group has qualified for 50% of their contested seasons and reached 50% of playoff spots overall; though their bowling has often been inconsistent at BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium last season – an issue they made an effort to address by recruiting Mohammed Shami and Anrich Nortje to help strengthen their bowling unit.
Shami is a right-arm fast bowler widely renowned for his upright seam presentation and ability to produce movement both ways with the new ball. A key member of India’s squad competing in major international tournaments, he won both Arjuna Awards for cricket.
Domestically, he has represented multiple teams and is well known for his speed and accuracy. At Sunrisers Hyderabad he helped them win three consecutive titles from 2024-2025 with his performance being instrumental. Now, LSG have signed him as they hope he can add yet another big game performance to his impressive CV.
3. Faf du Plessis
Du Plessis is one of the most influential captains in international cricket, having led South Africa to victory at both World Cups (2007) and subsequent bilateral series wins (three) simultaneously. Furthermore, he boasts eight One Day International (ODI) hundreds and four Twenty20 international (T20I) centuries – an outstanding run-scorer for his nation; additionally being named Cricketer of the Year by Cricket South Africa 2022 for both batting and fielding abilities.
He has an in-depth knowledge of cricket and possesses great composure at the crease, becoming a great leader for the side in big matches with his consistent and mature performance. Batting anywhere in the order, his expertise will prove essential when facing off against tough opposition.
Du Plessis has been an ever-present in South African national side since making his debut in 2002 and he has captained them several times since then. Additionally, he was captain of the World XI that traveled to Pakistan for 2017 edition of Pakistan Super League tournament and boasts an excellent record against them in bilateral series.
Quinton de Kock and Rishabh Pant are great support players, yet he must up his game if he hopes to make a strong playoff push this season. His form in recent matches has been poor; therefore it will be important for him to regain it soon; they hope he continues his impressive form against Mumbai Indians on Sunday.
4. Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav’s story is one of remarkable determination and perseverance. From humble roots in Kanpur’s bylanes to becoming one of the premier spinners on the circuit is testament to hard work and skill; his journey has taken years. DC Capitals will benefit greatly from his skill, control and wicket-taking brilliance this season as his bowling will play a pivotal role in their attack – his deceptive variation and sharp turn will shake batsmen from their stride while keeping wickets. DC will surely depend heavily upon him this season if success lies within DC’s ranks.
After their disappointing 5th-place finish last season, Delhi Capitals have made significant upgrades to their batting identity and entered this season with Ravi Bishnoi and Wanindu Hasaranga on board – who both bring immense experience – joining international stars Nicholas Pooran, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs as power-hitters that can hit massive totals.
Capitals’ new signings of Patel and Yadav, in addition to new recruit Nitish Rana’s lower order batting depth is providing much-needed depth in recent years, providing enormous betting value at plus money odds.
Rishabh Pant makes another intriguing call by dropping Shardul Thakur and handing over to Prince Yadav for the third over. A fuller from him lands straight in Porel’s hitting arc for four runs!
Karun Nair and Mohammad Nabi of LSG have made an excellent start. Nair has hit an outstanding backfoot heave to the onside that went over the ropes; Nabi then edged a fuller to third man but missed his mark so the ball was caught for 6. Rishabh Pant’s gamble continued when Dinesh Karthik received the ball next.
5. KL Rahul
KL Rahul became the fastest IPL batsman to reach 5,000 runs, surpassing David Warner’s previous record of 135 innings. Rahul reached this mark while playing for Delhi Capitals against LSG on May 17th; taking time settling in, Rahul finally made an impactful contribution with an unbeaten 57 not out from 42 deliveries that led their successful run chase against their former hosts.
Axar Patel bowled an efficient over, conceding only three runs while not taking any wickets. Ravi Bishnoi then bowled another economical over but without success – LSG’s batsmen appear cautious at present.
Aiden Markram was on target to score 50, but he suddenly found himself off balance! While trying a big shot he mistimed it and it soared high up into the air; Starc dived right but could not quite catch it.
Abishek Porel thunders a six straight down the ground! A deft flick off the edge finds fine leg for four. Two balls later, he hits an aggressive shot over midwicket that pays dividends with another maximum score.
Rohit Sharma comes out at No. 4, yet for some strange reason he doesn’t bat. With Delhi having such a strong top order featuring Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram and David Miller as openers – hopefully Rohit will come out and give them that extra push at the top to try and reach the final. Everything depends on these next few overs!
