2. India vs Zimbabwe ODI Series
KL Rahul will lead India on their ODI series against Zimbabwe after being declared fit, marking India’s first tour since their T20 World Cup triumph and giving them an opportunity to test bench strength ahead of an intense home season.
Shabman Gill outdid Sikandar Raza’s 115 runs as India defeated Zimbabwe by an enormous margin, scoring 257 runs to advance to the last four of T20 World Cup 2018 in Kolkata. Both sides reached 250 in their innings for the first time at this tournament – an exhilarating contest!
Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma provided India with its first fifty of the tournament, to keep its hopes alive of securing five titles at this competition. Zimbabwe will host India for a three-match Twenty20 International series in Harare Sports Club this July following their successful World Cup campaign.
Zimbabwe hopes to build on their momentum against India, who previously dominated a five-match series last year. This will mark India’s first visit since winning last year’s shortest format World Cup trophy.
Zimbabwe was under immense pressure after their opening Super 8 match loss against West Indies, yet failed to live up to expectations and suffered a 72-run defeat against India at Chennai. Brian Bennett put up an excellent effort, scoring 97 runs off just 59 balls but his efforts could not save Zimbabwe from falling away from semi-final contention.
India posted an impressive total of 256-4 in their unbeaten group stage run chase. Abhishek Sharma led with 55 off 30 balls while Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma made valuable contributions.
