Bangladesh: 106 for 4

Bangladesh batsmen struggled to match the pace and bounce of an unpredictable pitch in Kingstown, Saint Vincent. Opening batsman Tanzim Hasan Sakib was dismissed for a golden duck on just the second ball of the match, with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto following suit shortly thereafter in the second over. Bangladesh then succumbed to collapse; only Kushal Malla’s fighting 27 off 40 balls and Dipendra Singh Airee’s 25 off 31 balls kept them from being bowled out for 85.

Conditions were conducive to spinners as both Sompal Kami and Sandeep Lamichhane took two wickets each to leave Bangladesh reeling at 28-4 by the end of Powerplay. Nepal then chipped away at their hosts’ chances of qualifying for Super Eight stage qualification further by demoralising their innings further.

Mahmudullah and Shakib Al Hasan became involved in an argument which resulted in Mahmudullah being run out, diminishing Bangladesh’s chances of meeting their target. Rishad Hossain and Taskin Ahmed put on 31 runs for seventh wicket to push Bangladesh past 100 runs mark.

Nepal needed to win in order to qualify, yet they lost the toss and were sent in to bat, yet managed to post a respectable total of 231 all out in 49 overs despite losing Aasif Sheikh who scored an amazing 71 off 62 balls, Sandeep Lamichhane taking three wickets each, with Sandeep Lamichhane also picking up three wickets to seal their win by three wickets with 15 balls remaining and become the first nation ever at this stage of competition to advance further than Group Two relegation.

Bangladesh: 108 for 6

Bangladesh’s early overs were marked by struggles, reaching 30-4 by the end of their powerplay overs. Rishad Hossain and Taskin Ahmed led an impressive comeback; Rishad scored 64 while Taskin scored an outstanding 69-run innings to bring Bangladesh up to 108-6 by 17 overs, just five short of reaching their target.

Nepal’s bowlers proved resilient despite a low run rate, successfully holding off Bangladesh’s top order. Spinner Dipendra Singh Airee and Sompal Kami each took two wickets while fast bowler Litton Das conceded only 13 runs over four overs.

The match was an uneventful, low-scoring encounter, with neither side scoring more than 10 runs per over. But Bangladesh batsmen staged a valiant second half comeback, led by Shakib Al Hasan who played some stunning strokes to help his side meet its target.

Bangladesh beat Netherlands by an 83 run margin to conclude their group stage campaign in style and end Dutch hopes of qualifying for Super Eights; leaving them last in the table with only two points from six matches.

After an interruption to first session play in the morning, both teams took refuge in their changing rooms for lunch before resuming play in the late afternoon session. Although some rain fell, both outfield and pitch seemed in great condition to provide an exciting finish to this match-up.

Both teams began cautiously, with each side contributing just a few runs at first. But as the game progressed, both batsmen gradually upped their pace and intensity – including Bangladesh openers Mominul Haque and Mahmudul Hasan Joy sharing an outstanding 94-run partnership for the fourth wicket that put them well ahead of reaching their target quota of 109 runs.

Nepal won their opening match by 6 wickets with 82 balls remaining as Kushal Malla scored an unbeaten half century and was named Player of the Match while Sandeep Lamichhane took 3-wicket hauls as spinner.

Nepal is a cricket-playing nation located in South Asia that has played 99 T20 International matches to date. They have won 55 matches, lost 39 and tied 2 with one ending without a result – while also appearing at two ICC World Cups and an ICC Trophy tournament (their first appearance being 1999 and advancing past group stage, although recent performances indicate great promise).

Nepal faced South Africa in their next match and it proved an intensely dramatic contest. Gulshan Jha was on strike but could not reach it to make contact and was run out – effectively ending Nepal’s chances of qualifying for Super Eight.

Nepal defeated Oman with seven wickets with 82 balls remaining thanks to Aasif Sheikh and Kushal Bhurtel scoring half-centuries each, as well as Sandeep Lamichhane and Sompal Kami each taking three wickets each in this match.
