Mumbai Indians 218 (Suryakumar Yadav 117*, Rashid Khan 79) beat Gujarat Titans 156 (Will Jacks 76) by 3 wickets
Suryakumar Yadav scored his maiden IPL hundred to propel Mumbai Indians to a massive 218 for 5 against Gujarat Titans at Wankhede stadium, Mumbai on Friday. The opener hit six sixes and 11 fours during his 49-ball unbeaten 103 that earned MI their fourth 200+ total this season, adding 54 runs with Cameron Green (3 not out) for their fifth wicket stand that secured their win comfortably.
As raindrops made control difficult for both teams, GT won the toss and elected to bat first. Soon thereafter they lost openers Rohit Sharma (18-ball 29) and Ishan Kishan (31) before Rahul Tewatia posted an unbeaten 76 score in their first innings.
But it was the titans’ impressive bowling performance that kept them alive as wicket after wicket was collected by them. Mohammed Siraj removed Ryan Rickleton and Kedar Jadhav before giving way to Rashid Khan – the Afghan spinner picked up three wickets during his initial spell before returning in the 19th over to claim Mohit Sharma and Corey Anderson to keep up their momentum and stay competitive with MI.
With their victory, the Titans moved up to second spot with 17 points and are just a win away from qualifying for playoffs – although additional victories would likely be required over their remaining three matches.
Shubman Gill believes the pitch was somewhat challenging but believes his team did an admirable job of posting an adequate total on it despite dropping three catches during Powerplay. According to him, 210 would have been suitable on this surface.
MI lost their opening match of the tournament but are still well placed with an excellent net run rate and are in with a chance of making the playoffs with their healthy net run rate. MI has an excellent chance at reaching the semi-finals but must first overcome Rajasthan Royals if they wish to go all the way this time around – their first home fixture against them since winning by 27 runs back in 2021! Gujarat Titans 147 (Rahul Tewatia 73) beat Mumbai Indians 156 (Will Jacks 76) by 3 wickets
Gujarat Titans (GT) managed to overcome two rain interruptions and an energetic Mumbai Indians side on Tuesday to register a three-wicket victory in their IPL 2025 Eliminator match here. Chasing an below-par target of 156 under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, GT made up ground from an ordinary start and mid-innings collapse to reach it with one ball remaining using this scoring method – propelling GT into first place on the points table while MI suffered their fourth consecutive loss in this tournament.
GT opener Sai Sudharsan proved his worth after an initially slow start, playing a composed 63-ball innings that helped guide GT to 218 on the board before Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler provided aggressive cameos during middle overs. Together they enabled GT to post 218 runs.
MI started their chase off confidently in the powerplay and raced to 57/3 before reeling under some impressive bowling from Rahul Tewatia (2/20) and Rashid Khan (1/41). Sherfane Rutherford (4 off 39 balls) and Shahrukh Khan (38) made contributions as they approached 150, but Bumrah struck back quickly in the next over with an audacious nip-backer that saw off Gill and Rutherford quickly in quick succession.
Loss of both wickets within four balls was enough to put MI’s chase on hold, leaving them languishing at 103/8 at halfway stage. Rashid Khan made up for it with an outstanding 79-ball knock containing four sixes and five fours while dismantling GT attack through his strokeplay to create an unforgettable night at Wankhede for himself and MI.
GT managed to break the deadlock in the final over, as Rahul Tewatia hit four and Gerald Coetzee sixes, leaving them needing three off the last ball for victory. GT’s victory came thanks to a misfield on the penultimate delivery, when Arshad Khan scored off it with an elegant single that sealed their win by three runs via DLS method. As a result, GT have won five consecutive matches, reversing their poor form during the first half of their season while ending 2017 on an upbeat note. GT have not been defeated in their last seven matches at Ahmedabad or neutral playoff venues, winning each time against MI in Mumbai and winning four out of seven clashes; each team having four victories over one another. Shubman Gill leads this rivalry in runs scored with 317 across seven innings played versus each other, his highest individual score being 129 during 2023 Qualifier 2 which marked one team winning one match and the other losing four of seven encounters between them.
