Game 1
Indiana Pacers and Milwaukee Bucks are locked in a fierce playoff rivalry. On Thursday night, Indiana sent its star player into Milwaukee without their top scorer to secure an unexpected 136-123 win and remain alive while setting up Game 7 back home.
The Pacers were initially uncertain in the opening minutes, but their play quickly improved during the second quarter. They became much more aggressive on both ends of the floor and controlled paint play for an impressive 61-57 advantage at halftime. Their momentum carried over into the third quarter as they pulled away from Bucks to open up an 11-point lead.
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 3-pointers to open the fourth quarter seemed to put away Indiana, but they rallied. Tyrese Haliburton drew a foul during Bennedict Mathurin’s drive before Bobby Portis finished off an efficient fast break with a one-legged 3-pointer at the buzzer to close it out.
Although their deep shooting was limited, the Pacers managed to stay competitive with the Bucks and took a three-point advantage into the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, Milwaukee struggled offensively as several open looks went by unpunished.
The Pacers continued their dominating defensive efforts against the Bucks on Saturday, holding them to just 2-of-14 shooting from deep and forcing six turnovers. Their momentum carried into Game 6 that will take place at Indianapolis on Monday – this contest could decide who finishes with the best record in conference.
Game 2
In Game 2, the Pacers sought to rebound from their loss in Game 1. Although they made late runs to take two separate leads in the fourth quarter, their efforts fell short as they lost their home opener and fell behind 2-0 in this series. Even so, the Pacers are not giving up hope and still possess a shot at victory!
Tyrese Haliburton of the Pacers told media after Game 1 that he expects more from himself in Game 2. Despite contributing nine points, eight assists, seven rebounds, and taking only seven shots, Haliburton said it is necessary for him to become more aggressive and start scoring more often in Game 2.
The Pacers had an improved offensive performance in the second half, but were unable to compensate for their poor defensive efforts. After being outscored 30-14 in the fourth quarter by Milwaukee Bucks, they managed to cut their deficit down to 12 points thanks to 3-pointers from Myles Turner and Tyrese Haliburton; however, the Bucks would never allow them any closer.
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s presence was diminished significantly in the second half, as he committed multiple turnovers and missed several shots. But his teammates responded well in his absence: the Bucks scored 52 points in the third quarter alone to lead by 20 by halftime.
In the fourth quarter, the Pacers struggled to shoot efficiently and were outscored by the Bucks 20-10. Unable to stop their fast-paced offense and struggled for good looks on both ends of the floor, their long distance shooting dropped significantly with just 9-for-15 made in that quarter alone compared to 10-for-12 shot from deep during the first half – leaving more points for Bucks than expected! But their bench came alive in that quarter to keep pace and prevent falling further behind.
Game 3
After losing Game 1, the Pacers rebounded with an impressive victory in Game 2 to take a 2-1 advantage in their first-round playoff series against the Bucks and take control of Gainbridge Fieldhouse for Game 3. Will Giannis Antetokounmpo remain out as Giannis Antetokounmpo resides there for his absence?
Indiana started strong in the opening quarter, as Myles Turner hit a 3-pointer and Tyrese Haliburton scored with an easy layup from Tyrese Haliburton. Unfortunately, Indiana struggled against Milwaukee’s big men defensively; Jrue Holiday registered three steals which disrupted ball movement throughout the game while Myles Turner held his own blocking two shots and protecting the basket with four rebounds.
The Bucks increased their defensive intensity in the second half to slow down Indiana Pacers’ offensive pace and increase rebounding, gathering 10 additional offensive rebounds for 12 second-chance points. But Myles Turner hit multiple 3-pointers while Bobby Portis hit an amazing one-legged three at buzzer time to give Pacers a 12-7 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Pacers continued their dominance as Turner hit another 3-pointer and led his team on an 18-2 run to widen their advantage to 24 points. But late in regulation play, Khris Middleton scored on a layup before sinking his first 3-pointer of the game to reduce their deficit to nine.
After overtime, the Pacers prevailed to secure their win. Tyrese Haliburton led with 18 points, 16 assists, and 10 rebounds for Indiana; Myles Turner scored 23 points; Andrew Nembhard provided 14 while Obi Toppin provided 15.
In Game 4, the Indiana Pacers hope to capitalize on their home victory and square off against the Bucks again. The matchup will air live on Bally Sports Wisconsin and ESPN with Lisa Byington, Marques Johnson and Melanie Ricks representing Bally Sports while Mark Jones, Hubie Brown and Monica McNutt will represent ESPN.
Game 4
Giannis Antetokounmpo continued his remarkable performance for Milwaukee in Game 4, but were ultimately unable to halt Indiana’s comeback and secure a 115-108 win against them. Indiana used their superior defensive presence to prevent Bucks players from finding easy driving lanes and capitalize on any gaps created by inconsistent Bucks defense by hitting three-point shots from all angles of the floor.
The Bucks started strong and led by double figures after one quarter, but Giannis got his third foul and that slowed them down considerably. Luckily, Milwaukee’s bench picked up pace with Bobby Portis and Khris Middleton providing key contributions. Andrew Nembhard and Aaron Nesmith from Indiana made a comeback attempt late, before Myles Turner’s posterizing slam proved decisive against Milwaukee.
Free throws were crucial in this game, particularly when both teams were close. Tyrese Haliburton kept the Pacers alive by shooting 8/8 from the line; Giannis Antetokounmpo also improved on his free-throw shooting, making 10 out of 12 attempts and playing under pressure to stay ahead late in the game.
The Pacers are known for their 3-point shooting prowess, and Buddy Hield’s sharpshooting was key in stretching Milwaukee’s defense. But they had trouble stopping Pascal Siakam who made 5 3-pointers and scored 27 points; also struggling to contain Milwaukee’s backcourt duo of Giannis and Khris.
The Indiana Pacers need one more win to reach the East semifinals for the first time since 2014; however, with Bucks playing as fiercely as they have done so far in this postseason series – something they may need a special effort from their rivals in Indianapolis tonight to achieve.
