Shubman Gill’s young Indian team arrived in Harare on Wednesday for the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, replacing opener Sanju Samson and batsman Shivam Dube who are currently stuck in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl. Sai Sudharsan and Jitesh Sharma will serve as replacements.

Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh and Riyan Parag are some of the young talent included in the squad. 1. India vs Zimbabwe – 1st T20I

Zimbabwe put on an outstanding show to unnerve World Champions India in an explosive first T20I matchup on Wednesday. Abhishek Sharma and Riyan Parag made their debuts for India but couldn’t leave an impactful mark; their batsmen played some risky shots that were punished accordingly, with Washington Sundar being especially guilty of hitting straight to Sikandar Raza at short midwicket who picked it up as well.

India and Zimbabwe were involved in an exciting second test match during their tour, both teams producing excellent performances. Zimbabwean batsmen did an admirable job of controlling run rate; however, India’s bowlers led by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami made life hard for Zimbabweans trying to gain momentum.

Zimbabwe bowlers took advantage of an early spongy pitch with plenty of bounce and seam, utilising pace well to restrict India’s powerplay innings. Shubman Gill lost his wicket early when he played straight at Blessing Muzarabani who chipped the ball straight to mid-on; Abhishek Sharma too fell cheaply as soon as Muzarabani delivered delivery three of that over.

Zimbabwe’s batsmen struggled hard to keep pace with India’s high run-rate as their hosts kept the target within their grasp. Although Brendan Taylor made a half-century, it wasn’t enough to propel Zimbabwe close. India’s disciplined bowling attack ensured they could not accelerate and ensured an easy victory for themselves in an enjoyable encounter.

On Wednesday, a young Indian team arrived in Harare to play five T20 Internationals against Zimbabwe under captain Shubman Gill and National Cricket Academy head coach VVS Laxman. The squad consisted of both senior and fringe players.

3. India vs Zimbabwe – 3rd T20I

After suffering an unexpected loss in the first T20I, India rebounded with an impressive showing in their second T20I against Australia. Skipper Shubman Gill scored an outstanding 66, while Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal struck two impressive knocks to guide India to 182 runs in 20 overs. Offspinner Washington Sundar’s 3/15 provided steady bowling support while pacer Avesh Khan chipped in two wickets.

Zimbabwe got off to an inauspicious start, losing opener Wessly Madhevere within two overs and finding themselves struggling to meet their required run rate. A 77-run partnership between Dion Myers and Clive Madande provided some hope for their team.

But then came a dramatic collapse as Mukesh Kumar used the last ball of an over to wrap up Zimbabwe’s innings and give India an immediate 2-1 advantage in the series. Zimbabwe were eventually dismissed for only 125 runs and India took commanding lead 2-1 lead of this clash.

4. India vs Zimbabwe – 4th T20I

Zimbabwe may be on the brink of being whitewashed in this series, yet there remains much for them to celebrate despite losing. Their bowlers such as Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan have performed admirably while Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi’s spin combination has proven unplayable on Harare’s slow pitch.

Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza believes his side can still win if they play their best cricket and continue to improve in all departments, although India have proven themselves worthy opponents on the pitch. He acknowledges their superior performance but acknowledges their efforts nonetheless.

On July 13th, both teams currently stand even with each other at 1-1 in the five-match T20I series and will square off once more for their fourth matchup of this tournament.

India will look to secure a 3-1 lead in their series and win their inaugural match in Zimbabwe. As this match will take place at home for them, India are favourites to come away victorious from this contest.

Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal will open India’s batting at the T20 World Cup 2024, having received maiden selection due to their performances during IPL 2019. They were recently recognized with maiden call-ups following impressive IPL seasons.

5. India vs Zimbabwe – 5th T20I

India have taken an early advantage in the five-match T20I series by winning their fourth game on tour to Zimbabwe, led by Shubman Gill’s side. Sanju Samson scored a half century and Shivam Dube and Washington Sundar made cameo appearances to help put away Zimbabweans.

India are in an excellent position to defend their total of 168 runs and end the series on a high note; but, Australia won’t make things easy for them.

The match will start at 4.30 pm IST at the Harare Sports Club and will be shown live on Sony Sports Ten 5 SD & HD, Sony Ten 3 (Hindi), and Sony Ten 4 (Tamil and Telugu).

Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza won the toss and decided to bowl first, setting the scene for India’s pacers and spinners who have shown such promise during previous matches to go against Zimbabweans. It will be interesting to witness their performance compared with Zimbabwean opposition.

Shubman Gill made two changes from their last match-up against Pakistan: Khaleel Ahmed and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been replaced with Mukesh Kumar and Riyan Parag, both playing prominent roles for Rajasthan Royals during IPL 2018.
