Offense
The Ravens maintained their lead over the Packers for the final playoff spot in AFC North with their 41-24 victory on Saturday at Lambeau Field, led by running back Derrick Henry who amassed over 200 yards and four touchdowns as Baltimore took complete control from start to finish of this contest.
Baltimore had an explosive start to their first quarter against Green Bay with an 11-yard pass from QB Malik Willis to WR Isaiah Likely and 22-yard run by Henry. Following a 3-yard checkdown to Rasheen Ali, Baltimore punted and Green Bay took over at their 14 before receiving another holding call on safety Alohi Gilman on second-and-9 that temporarily delayed them reaching Baltimore 20-yard line before two-minute warning.
On his next series, Willis avoided being sacked by using read-option and side arming a pass to Doubs for 13 yards – leading to Tyler Loop kicking a 34-yard field goal and concluding this drive.
After a short delay, Willis connected with Doubs on another 16-yard strike to set up first and goal at the Green Bay 10. A 5-yard run by Willis and 6-yard completion to Watson moved them closer to goal, before RB Clayton Tune fumbled and was recovered by safety Nate Hobbs for no return attempt on third down – effectively ending any chance for comeback for Green Bay.
In the second half, Baltimore extended their lead with two field goals by Brandon McManus — 46 yards for field goal and 40-yard touchdown pass from Willis to Andrews — as Green Bay attempted a comeback; however an interception by cornerback Jordon Riley on third down as well as missed 44-yard field goal by kicker Mason Crosby secured victory for Baltimore.

Baltimore gave Green Bay an early scare, when Derrick Henry scored on a 3-yard touchdown run early. Their defense responded quickly by forcing Green Bay’s first three drives into third-and-long situations that ultimately failed. On one drive RB Brandon Jacobs fumbled, with it recovered by safety Jordon Anderson; fourth down conversion attempt failed successfully but resulted in punt being deep inside Green Bay territory.
Baltimore then made two sacks on quarterback Aaron Rodgers during the third quarter, as Tavius Robinson and Jordan Willis tackled him to force a fumble that resulted in another field goal by Justin Tucker.
After an inconsistent second quarter, the Ravens’ defense regained their footing in the fourth. Defensive tackle Teair Tart posted a PFF run defense grade of 70.3 for interior defensive linemen in 2025, placing him second overall among interior defenders. Marshal Yanda reached career high pass rush grade 79.2 earning him an extension in free agency this offseason.
Baltimore’s defense has been one of the best in the league at forcing turnovers and disrupting opposing quarterbacks all season, especially the secondary, which features two top-10 pass defenders in Kyle Hamilton and Jordon Willis. Tavius Robinson has been one of the team’s most consistent performers, while even without All-Pro safety Nnamdi Madbuike the defense has held up well against Green Bay’s potency offensively and proved its worth in red zone play. Their combination has helped Baltimore maintain a lead over Pittsburgh for divisional supremacy; now all we can ask is when will that advantage expire?
Special teams
Special teams play is often underestimated as an integral component of football, yet its effectiveness can make or break games. A unit containing snappers, blockers, holders and place kickers are crucial in helping their team succeed on special teams play; even though these players only appear for limited plays on the field they still make an invaluable contribution in helping secure wins on punt returns, kicking off returns and kickoffs – which often pin opponents deep on punt returns, kickoff returns or kickoffs respectively. Though special teams often go unnoticed this aspect can turn the tide of battle on its own against its adversary – whether win or loss depends upon who dominates this area of football!
The Ravens won the opening coin toss and elected to receive. Tyler Huntley delivered first down passes of 17 yards to Christian Watson and 7 yards out to Romeo Doubs on first down, then ran for four-yard gain on second. Following an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Green Bay’s Jordon Riley, they advanced up to their 34. A sack by Lukas Van Ness of Aaron Banks forced a third down fumble which allowed Keisean Nixon to force it. Tyler Loop 34 yard field goal gave them 17-7 lead with 1:39 remaining in halftime.
After a 13-play, 75-yard scoring drive by Baltimore that netted three scores on third down and four plays overall in the fourth quarter, Derrick Henry took over. Running for both 3-yard touchdown and 6-yard gain on third down to put Baltimore up by two scores with 6:56 left to play and setting up Huntley’s 30-yard scramble for their last drive which resulted in Henry rushing for nine yards to the Green Bay 10 before Henry finished off the night by scoring.
Finding talented special teams players from smaller schools is no simple task, which is why it is crucial that coaches take special teams seriously and build an outstanding unit capable of competing with those from larger programs. Smith has done exactly this by keeping four or five contributors on his roster and building one of the finest units in his league. Although his squad might not boast some of the biggest names, their collective performance makes up one of its key advantages.
Red zone
Once in the red zone, everything changes quickly: field size narrows significantly, safeties move in closer, passing windows diminish quickly – this requires precise high-low concepts with tight reads and quick release routes, play action must be implemented effectively by quarterbacks to win in this environment, play-action must also be employed effectively in order to maintain accuracy rates that mirror non-red zone plays. Unfortunately accuracy rates often drop dramatically within the red zone.
The Ravens won the coin toss and elected to receive on their opening possession, starting off with Derrick Henry’s 3-yard run on their left flank before Huntley completed a 19-yard pass to Christian Watson for second down and 9 at Green Bay 34, forcing a Tyler Loop field goal attempt from stall.
After missing their field goal attempt, the Packers quickly rebounded with a 13-play, 75-yard scoring drive. On first down Corey Clement caught a 14-yard touchdown pass before running for 2-yard score on second. When reaching Ravens 30-yard line on third-and-10 decision was needed: either run ball or attempt deep pass attempt? They chose pass instead.
Since 2010, running has achieved a 46.7 percent success rate while passing has only seen 46.1 percent success rate in red zone situations. But this doesn’t necessarily indicate that passing is superior in these instances.
On average, it appears that teams would benefit more by using running as their strategy to win games in red zone situations and restricting pass attempts in these instances.
Man coverage is an effective method for this. It enables defenders to challenge routes early, stay attached through contact and limit completions while creating traffic by covering multiple receivers at once – creating an aggressive form of defense requiring great communication among defensive backs – that results in physical and sticky defense suited perfectly for red zone defense. This makes protecting red zones so challenging.
