Portugal have proven more dangerous than their Czech opponents, yet have struggled to take their chances. Their first goal came thanks to some unfortunate luck when Jindrich Stanek clanged a corner off Robin Hranac’s leg; as Hranac went tumbling forwards allowing Francisco Conceicao an opportunity to shoot home his shot from inside the area.

Portugal is considered a top contender to win Euro 2024, boasting a powerful squad led by Joao Felix and Diogo Jota who should prove too much for Czech Republic to handle. But Czechs possess quality talent themselves which will prove formidable opponents.
First half has been quiet but with four minutes remaining of extra time things look set to heat up. Vitinha played an excellent ball to Silva but his shot missed its target. Later, CR7 pulled back his neck and tried putting in a header but Coufal got an enormous eyebrow out and Stanek cleared away the ball before it could strike goal.
The Czechs boast several players capable of creating problems for opposing teams, as well as a powerful midfield that includes Tomas Soucek from Bayer Leverkusen and Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick as part of their offensive lineup. Additionally, their height and strength make them a serious aerial threat.
Pepe

Portugal will look to bounce back after their initial UEFA Nations League group match loss to Switzerland against Czech Republic when they meet again later in 2022. Portugal triumphed by winning 4 0 in that encounter.
Mendes nearly set Ronaldo through with an accurate flick but he couldn’t quite connect; consequently, the ball returned in and was cleared away. Later on down left side Schick attempted to move past Coufal but was booked for simulation.
Roberto Martinez has yet to announce whether or not he will switch up his preferred 4-3-3 formation or adopt a three-man defence, which would see Diogo Dalot and Joao Cancelo moved forward as fullbacks, alongside Joao Neves and Goncalo Inacio who could start for Portugal. For Czech Republic forward Patrik Schick of Bayern Leverkusen should provide some attacking spark; having achieved success during Euro 2020 qualifying which saw them finish ahead of Poland and Slovakia respectively.
Cancelo
Cancelo is one of the most promising young players in Europe and it appears he will replace Pepe as Portugal’s starting centre-back when he recovers. At Manchester City he boasts strength, speed and intelligence but will face stiff opposition against a well-organized Czech Republic side.
Czech Republic creates the next half-chance with Doudera chasing after an empty cause on the left and crossing for Coufal, who couldn’t quite get enough purchase on his shot and it went wide.
Portugal are pressing more aggressively but haven’t managed to create any real chances yet. Leao made an attempt at finding Ronaldo in the box with a cross, but unfortunately it didn’t reach anyone wearing red. Leipzig weather has taken a turn for the worse as play has turned messy; Schick committed an obvious foul against Cancelo at the edge of his box and was booked – making for an unpleasant first half performance by Portugal who have held most of the possession.
Fernandes
Fernandes will play in Portugal as a central midfielder and aim to work closely with Joao Cancelo as part of Portugal’s attacking plans. Furthermore, he can cover a lot of ground while providing defensive support to Portugal’s back four.
Bernardo Silva serves as an integral component of Portugal’s attack, providing both width and depth in their attacks. Starting on the right-hand side but frequently moving inside to overload defences with his presence.
Cristiano Ronaldo will aim to break several records at Euro 2024 and could become the oldest outfield player ever to win it at 39. He will lead his national team alongside Dalot, Pepe, Dias and possibly Joao Leao and Vitinha; adding more goals to his already impressive total of 207 for their national side.
Vitinha
Portugal are still struggling to break down a hardened Czech defence in the final 10 minutes of this match, yet another dinked ball from Silva into the box set Ronaldo up one-on-one but his shot missed its target.
Leao throws an easy throw that is easily cleared by his teammates, and they take another corner for Portugal. Unfortunately, their delivery was subpar and easily handled by Czechs.
Doudera chased a lost cause down the left flank before playing a beautiful pass to Coufal, who in turn fed Provod. Provod took one touch before unleashing an amazing strike past Costa and into the left-hand corner – giving his side an early 2-0 advantage. Roberto Martinez quickly responded by substituting Goncalo Inacio and Diogo Jota for Dalot and Leao respectively, for an equalizing score.
Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo will be at the centre of attention when Portugal kick off their Euro 2024 campaign with a Group F fixture against Czech Republic, featuring two top scorers from COVID-delayed Euro 2020: Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to shoulder an increased goal-scoring burden than his Bayer Leverkusen teammate Patrik Schick.
So far, neither side is creating many clear-cut opportunities in this matchup. Mendes swings a cross that no one catches while Bernardo Silva and Fernandes try their luck with some through balls.
Martinez could opt for a 4-3-3 formation with Rafael Leao and Joao Felix providing width. William Carvalho and Bruno Fernandes could start midfield for Martinez; Joao Palhinha from Fulham may feature as sixth man. Should Pepe start in any European Championship matches, he will become the oldest player ever to do so while Dias and Joao Cancelo could partner him at centre back, with Diogo Dalot and Nuno Mendes serving as wing-backs.
