Corbin Bosch’s Double-Barrelled Brilliance: A Century AND Five Wickets!

Corbin Bosch last made an international cricket appearance when he helped South Africa qualify for Lord’s as host for the World Test Championship final last year.

While Bosch did not score himself, his one wicket helped set Pakistan back and Aiden Markram set about chasing down.

Bosch was selected as a late replacement in a team selection on that particular day and made full use of his opportunity. Though his future in longer forms of cricket may not look so bright, T20 is where Bosch should shine brightest.

He currently plays for Multiply Titans in the Sunfoil Series and is an integral member of their squad. A natural baller, with raw pace run in through his family lineage.

Tertius played several Tests and ODIs as well as becoming a domestic legend; hopefully he may follow in his footsteps; for now though he’s delighted to be part of this South African side that could become one of the greatest sides worldwide.

South Africa’s First Innings Dominance

South Africa was victorious against West Indies ‘A’ in every department during their unofficial Test match at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Barbados. South African captain Temba Bavuma retained his unbeaten streak as he led them to series victory while their bowlers decimated West Indian opposition with ease and sealed an innings victory for their side.

South African top order batsmen set the pace early with several half-centuries that put West Indies ‘A’ under immense pressure, starting off the innings by scoring half centuries at regular intervals to secure an overwhelming lead against West Indies A.

Marques Ackerman was especially impressive, smashing 209 off 170 balls, including 32 boundaries and two sixes; Jordan Hermann, Jason Smith and wicketkeeper Rivaldo Moonsamy each contributed their own composed efforts in helping achieve this total score.

Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer each claimed four wickets through spin bowling, with Harmer particularly effective with short, angled deliveries that resulted in multiple catches from fielders. Meanwhile, Maharaj utilized his length effectively – trapping Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Nejad with bouncers to achieve success.

India experienced its first-innings loss at home since 2015, leaving them to chase down 489 runs to win the match. Rishabh Pant led his side’s effort, but even his valiant effort couldn’t prevent a crushing defeat for India.

Dewald Brevis, Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Codi Yusuf all made their Proteas debuts during this Test match, with Kundai Matigimu and Lesego Senokwane representing Zimbabwe.

The second Test will begin in Bulawayo tomorrow before heading south for Cape Town Oval for one last showdown of this series.

Zimbabwe’s Disappointing Batting Performance

Zimbabwe (known until 1980 as Rhodesia) became an associate member of the International Cricket Council from 1904-1932, before eventually receiving full membership upon independence in 1980. Zimbabwe never achieved major cricketing success, yet their impact at lower levels was often felt against full member teams under Elton Chigumbura’s captaincy.

Pakistan possess talented players who can deliver impressive results in limited-overs cricket when their batsmen are performing at their peak, but their test cricket record remains dismal; since beating Bangladesh in 2007’s opening match of the World Cup they have only managed one win and ever since they have suffered numerous defeats.

In One-Day Internationals (ODIs), their performance has been even worse; they rank 13th worldwide and have won only two out of 14 matches played over this past year.

Poor batting performances have contributed significantly to India’s poor showing at this World Cup, with Brendan Taylor remaining consistent throughout. He earned Man of the Match honours against Australia with an unbeaten 60 from 45 deliveries; an outstanding display against South Korea saw him named Player of the Tournament and awarded with Man of the Match accolades as well.

Zimbabwe struggled to support him with their batting as they were bowled out for 147 in 19.2 overs. Christopher Mpofu took 3 for 20 to lead Zimbabwe out, which caused them to miss qualifying for semi-finals due to lower net run rates.

Domestically, Zimbabwe were forced to compete in South African one-day tournaments instead of their beloved Logan Cup in 2006 in order to prevent talent leaving for England or South Africa, as well as generate some much-needed funds in order to ensure long-term financial sustainability for their national team.

Zimbabwe have received praise in some quarters for honouring their commitment to play 11 full member cricket games in 2025 despite their dismal Test and ODI performances, though others have labelled them foolish for risking their financial stability so as to participate in what will likely be one-sided affairs.

South Africa’s Relentless Bowling Attack

Allan Donald has made an impassioned case that the Proteas’ current pace trio represents “the finest attack for over 25 years”, supported by statistics. Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander have collectively collected more than 500 wickets – making them South Africa’s most successful fast bowling trio ever.

Proteas have taken England and Afghanistan by storm with unparalleled intensity, becoming the number-one Test side in 2025.

Their tall pace trio of Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi offers incredible variety even under less-than-ideal bowling conditions; Rabada can pitch balls up in front of batsmen to cause problems; however Ngidi and Jansen’s height makes their bowling styles different; Rabada uses classical run-up and action, while Ngidi/Jansen both impose themselves more awkwardly due to their height;
