The term South is typically applied to refer to South America as an inverted cone-like area encompassing Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay; alternatively it may refer to any country or region distinct from those located further North. Team India
India’s national cricket team represents its country internationally. Under the auspices of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), this side competes in various International Cricket Council tournaments such as World Cup, One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals.
India has enjoyed remarkable success over recent history. They hold both world and test match records. Rohit Sharma currently captains all formats for India under coach Rahul Dravid while boasting some of the finest cricket players such as spinners Kumble and Jasprit Bumrah; batsmen Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli as well as fast bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami among their ranks.
South Africa will look to continue their impressive start at this tournament when they host India at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. South Africa currently share second place with two-time champion West Indies and Zimbabwe while India have won all four matches so far and earned maximum six points from each game played so far.
India had an underwhelming performance at the 2021 T20 World Cup, losing to Pakistan in the semifinals, but quickly returned to form with a 2-0 series win against Australia before dominating Bangladesh by 10 wickets to claim their inaugural Asia Cup crown and become world champions!
India have been dominating in ODIs, winning five straight with an average win margin of over 400 runs and most recently beating Sri Lanka by seven wickets to extend their streak of wins to 13 consecutive.
After 1987, Australia were nearly unbeatable at home in Tests until losing series to New Zealand and South Africa within months. But since then, their form has rebounded quickly to make them one of the premier sides worldwide.

Team South Africa
South Africa are a strong team in all forms of cricket and one of the most successful sides in recent history, having reached five ODI World Cup semi-finals and two T20 World Cup finals, but never managed to lift either trophy. Their players can fill all positions, from spinners, fast bowlers, batsmen and spinners – their ability to adapt quickly to conditions when playing away is particularly advantageous when away from home is considered.
After an absence of several decades, South Africa made their comeback into first-class and international cricket in 1991. Though initially weaker, their team quickly developed and quickly established itself as one of the premier white ball cricket sides worldwide; regularly taking on major nations such as Australia and England.
South Africa’s batsmen dominated in the first innings, led by David Miller and Dewald Brevis who both hit some powerful strokes that got South Africa off to a fast start.
Unfortunately for South Africa though, India were quick to seize upon any unreliability within their batting order by dismissing tailenders swiftly.
Indian bowlers were equally impressive on the field. Jasprit Bumrah produced several thick edges early, before outwitting Quinton de Kock’s attempted slog with an accurate delivery to leg stump. Varun Chakravarthy kept up the run-rate by providing an efficient four over analysis 4-0-47-1.
India are now at a critical juncture in the competition and need a victory against South Africa to move up in their group, as any loss would see them drop into relegation zone and require winning their remaining two matches to secure semi-final berth.
Both sides should know Ahmedabad well – with its black soil pitch ideal for batting but higher temperatures affecting play – making for an exciting encounter that should make for high scoring action.
ODIs
South Africa was banned by the International Cricket Council for over two decades due to apartheid; when they eventually returned, South Africa quickly established themselves as one of the premier limited-overs teams. After quickly adapting to white ball cricket and reaching five ODI World Cup semi-finals (though never winning it!), their team became immensely competitive once more. Their rich history boasts such legendary figures as Jacques Kallis and Graeme Smith who led their side to many triumphs during this period.
South Africa currently fields active Test, ODI and T20I squads that operate under split captaincy; Temba Bavuma leads Test side, with Aiden Markram taking charge of ODI/T20I teams. Both captains led their respective sides all the way to winning finals at 2024 & 2026 ICC T20 World Cups!
The Proteas have established themselves as one of the most dominant teams against India in ODIs and T20Is, winning 10 out of 8 meetings between these nations – winning with an aggregate margin of 59 runs during an ODI contest and ending up drawing in their only T20I encounter to date.
As of December 20, 2025, South Africa are currently ranked sixth in ODI rankings and ninth in T20I rankings. They also boast three World T20 victories against India making them an extremely formidable team.
The South African Proteas cricket team wears a green jersey with yellow accents and a dark-green stylised protea emblem on their left breast, with green trousers. Fielding hats for these matches typically consist of either a baseball cap or sunhat featuring their logo; their fielding hat may either be green baseball cap or sunhat featuring this emblem as fielding headgear.
They have used various bowlers such as Allan Donald, Daryll Cullinan, Jonty Rhodes Shaun Pollock Dale Steyn Makhaya Ntini and AB de Villiers while batsmen included Jacques Kallis, Graeme Smith Hashim Amla and Farhaan Behardien; currently, their coach Russell Domingo took over from former coach Graeme Smith who took over in October 2022 after replacing him as coach Graeme Smith replaced him as coach in October 2022 and are working hard on developing depth in all departments with young players as part of his tenure.
T20Is
The shortest form of cricket combines both strategy and energy from Tests with T20Is in its twenty over format, where scores carry forward from the first innings if it ends in a tie. Furthermore, this format of cricket allows teams to win by more than one run, making it the most exciting form of play with its thrilling elements.
India started off strong in this match against South Africa, but ultimately were overrun by their batsmen who couldn’t keep pace with South African’s pacey attack.
Rohit Sharma reached 20,000 international runs during this game while equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most sixes scored in an ODI series – surpassing both AB De Villiers and Virat Kohli to become seventh most prolific century maker ever! Quinton de Kock also scored big against India becoming seventh most prolific century maker ever seen in history!
South Africa won the fifth Twenty-20 International (T20I) by 51 runs to level the series 1-1 and put pressure back onto India. All ten wickets fell for South African bowlers in an unprecedented feat of T20Is bowling, as India experienced their largest T20I loss ever and illustrated just how difficult this format is.
AB de Villiers shone brightest for South Africa against India in Guwahati with an unbeaten 97 that saw them chase down 213 for victory in their second T20I. De Villiers was supported by wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock who made an outstanding full-length dive to take an astounding catch off Lungi Ngidi.
Proteas were dealt a blow when injured pace bowler Kagiso Rabada was ruled out of the rest of the series due to knee pain, possibly for all tests against New Zealand in 2019.
India fell short of their daunting target of 213 in Lucknow despite all their best efforts, even though Shubman Gill made an excellent start with a boundary off Ngidi before scooping an easy catch by mid-off and going back into his dugout soon afterwards. Suryakumar Yadav followed shortly thereafter for 12 before Hardik Pandya was out next ball for 59 and India’s innings petered away rapidly.
