CSK vs LSG
Chennai Super Kings ended a five-match losing streak thanks to an MS Dhoni special under pressure and secured a five-wicket victory against Lucknow Super Giants at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday.
Chasing 167 on an unforgiving pitch, Dhoni hit 11 balls of boundaries while Shivam Dube made 37 off 37 balls to bring them home with five balls left on the clock; giving CSK much-needed confidence after having lost three prior run-chases games on previous occasions.
LSG are struggling this season and currently sit fifth in the table with only two wins out of 11 matches so far. Owned by Sanjiv Goenka, they initially performed admirably when competing in the IPL – finishing top four consecutive seasons before losing all momentum last year.
In this season, the home side’s struggles stemmed largely from poor bowling performances; however, their spinners finally showed some resilience against Mumbai Indians in their last match.
Their batsmen also struggled to hit big shots, failing to meet the required rate of run scoring.
As CSK was facing an imperative win against them, putting up a competitive total was essential to winning this match.
Rachin Ravindra and debutant Shaik Rasheed started well, sharing an opening stand of 52 runs between them within five overs in the powerplay before Ravi Bishnoi removed both batsmen from play to sap any momentum away from CSK’s batsmen.
LSG’s spinners began to take control of the middle overs as their spinners picked off key scalps like Nicholas Pooran (Digvesh Rathi) and Marsh (Anshul Kambhoj).
Ayush Badoni also survived several close calls by successfully appealing an LBW decision against Matheeesha Pathirana before edged one behind to short third-man off Jadeja.
However, LSG’s batting collapsed again as they were unable to recover from a poor start and were bowled out for just 151 runs in 19th over.
This defeat ended their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs and also put a dent in morale; CSK meanwhile have won just one out of their past five matches so this will be key game in terms of form revival for them.
