KKR 234/7

KKR fell prey to an IPL innings against Lucknow Super Giants by four runs at Eden Gardens on Tuesday due to an innings-ending collapse during the death overs. Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran made notable contributions with excellent 80s, but it wasn’t enough for KKR to secure their highest run chase ever in IPL history.

After early losses of opener Andre Russell and Venkatesh Iyer, captain Ajinkya Rahane took control of the middle order to score an outstanding 61 off 35 balls and keep his team competitive. Venkatesh Iyer made quick work of his 45 runs before Rinku Singh added 15 from 15 balls with an unbeaten 38 that gave hope of crossing 239 before falling just one run short in the end.

At times, this match was intensely competitive and gave both teams something to cheer about. While KKR’s lower order struggled, their bowlers Ravi Bishnoi and Digvesh Rathi impressed fans.

LSG were on top in the first half of their innings thanks to powerful hitting and disciplined bowling from Pooran and Marsh, helping the visitors amass 238/3 runs from 20 overs.

KKR’s bowlers weren’t as successful in the second half, as their lack of penetration was apparent. They lost five wickets within three overs with Pradeep Sharma, Mohammed Siraj and Vijay Shankar taking two scalps each; leaving Andre Russell and Angriksh Raghuvanshi too much work in their final overs – eventually falling short by 14 runs to end on 234/7.

With only 24 needed from the final over, Ravi Bishnoi’s off-stump leg-break was miscued to long-off by Ramandeep Singh who then failed to add to his strike rate by scoring any runs, falling for just two-ball 1. Unfortunately for their hosts, they fell agonisingly short of reaching their target.

Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine of KKR opened with an impressive 71-run partnership to quickly establish themselves as contenders in this matchup. They attempted to increase the pace in the 13th over, but Shardul Thakur’s series of wides and an early wicket from LSG spinners Bishnoi and Rathi dashed any hopes of a run chase. Middle and lower order batsmen were left rattled, made worse by an ineffective Ramandeep being promoted up to number five but failing to make any impactful contributions. KKR missed their opportunity for top spot, falling back down into sixth position after four wins and six losses; it will leave them needing to win all remaining matches to qualify for play-offs and qualify.

LSG 238/3

LSG’s top three batted brilliantly in this run feast. Markram provided early impetus with his rapid 56 off 36 balls; Marsh provided consistency while Pooran displayed finishing fireworks to ensure their innings was never slowing down – adding 143 runs over 10 overs on an outstanding pitch that proved too good for KKR bowlers; Pooran in particular showed his brilliance by smashing eight fours and six huge sixes into their attack!

But the defending champions’ bowlers were simply insufficient on this dry and sticky Eden wicket. Varun Aaron struggled for pace with an below-par 2/37 while Johnson and Sunil Narine each conceded over 40 runs in three overs each. Only Arora managed to maintain his nerve and bowl well, giving up only 34 runs over four overs.

LSG still managed to reach 238/3 in their 20 overs thanks to Nicholas Pooran’s incredible 87 off 36 balls and Mitchell Marsh’s composed 81 off 48 deliveries, along with Ajinkya Rahane’s swift 90 in Powerplay and late fireworks from Rinku Singh.

LSG’s bowlers then did their best to restrict run-rate, and with luck could have secured an outstanding win. Shardul Thakur’s incredible first ball soon turned momentum back in their favour and restored LSG to form.

At such a critical juncture in the game, KKR needed to accelerate quickly but lost two vital wickets within four overs to fall dangerously behind on run-rate. Ajinkya Rahane and Rinku Singh tried hard, yet came up four runs short in their effort.

KKR dropped one spot to sixth with this loss, yet their late-game collapse will remain a key worry for them. Their ineffective finishers — particularly Andre Russell — has left them struggling for success against teams boasting strong batting lineups like Mumbai Galaxy (MGL) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). To remain competitive they will need a turnaround soon if they hope to beat teams like these again and clinch playoff qualification – then can start dreaming about their fourth title win in five years! Final Score

KKR and LSG battled it out from start to finish in an exciting encounter. Both sides are currently sitting mid-table with two wins and two losses each in league play, so every victory against their direct rival carries significant weight as it would help determine who would advance to knockout stages playoff spots; therefore this match between these teams was bound to be an entertaining contest!

Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine set off the match-winning run chase at Eden Gardens by striking an early partnership of 67 runs in the Powerplay. LSG bowler Akash Deep bowled his opening over.

KKR needed a big total to defend at Eden Gardens, and started strong when Narine and QDK began hitting boundaries regularly en route to ending the Powerplay with 90/1 on board. Unfortunately for them however, wickets fell at regular intervals making a chase more difficult.

LSG have bowled with discipline to limit KKR’s scoring opportunities and narrow their deficit from 84 runs in the first 10 overs down to 48 in 10 overs – but must continue being wary in order to win this tiebreaker match.

Ajinkya Rahane: Overall it was an exciting match and the wicket seemed suitable to bat on. Unfortunately we lost several wickets in the middle but fought valiantly; unfortunately we fell short by only four runs at the end.

Overall, it was an outstanding team performance that will leave us all proud to call themselves Lions. Looking ahead, our goal will be to build upon this win and come back stronger next time around.
