History

Pakistan and Bangladesh have had many memorable encounters over the years, playing numerous Tests, ODIs, and T20Is against one another. Pakistan typically dominates this rivalry but Bangladesh has managed some notable upsets particularly in ODIs.

Bangladesh and Pakistan first clashed at the 1986 Asia Cup. At that time, Bangladesh were still relatively young cricketing nation attempting to establish themselves on a world level; yet they stunned Pakistan by defeating them decisively; this victory marked a key turning point in Bangladeshi cricket history and announced them as powerful cricketing powerhouse.

Since then, both nations have engaged in an intense rivalry that has brought thrilling contests between T20I series and ODI series, both sides taking turns at dominating each other until 2015 when Bangladesh surprised Pakistan by winning three-match T20I series.

Bangladesh edged past Pakistan by eight runs in an intense and gripping encounter. Faheem Ashraf led Pakistan’s lower order fightback but ultimately fell short due to poor top order performances; Bangladesh prevailed thanks to sharp instincts and exceptional composure under pressure to secure a vital win in an intense contest.

Bangladesh now hold a commanding lead in the three-match T20I series against Pakistan. The third and final match will take place at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday 24 July with Pakistan hoping to avoid being whitewashed while Bangladesh looking for another victory – follow all of this live action on Cricbuzz!

Matches

Pakistan and Bangladesh share an intense history of rivalry. Both teams have experienced both dominance and upsets during their three hundred-and-fifty-nine encounters against each other, making every match between them riveting to watch.

From high-stakes T20 World Cup matches to tri-nation series series, Pakistan vs Bangladesh have thrilled audiences worldwide; 359 meetings between them occurred between 2004-2022 T20 World Cup when Bangladesh emerged victorious.

Starting in July, Bangladesh and Pakistan will play in a three-match T20I series that will serve as ideal preparation in subcontinental conditions before next year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup begins.

Both teams have shown plenty of determination in the opening two matches, with Bangladesh emerging victorious after taking one victory and Pakistan edging out Bangladesh by two. The third and final match will take place Thursday, July 24 at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

Bangladesh will hope to redeem themselves after their underwhelming showing in the 2019 World Cup by beating Pakistan convincingly in their final T20I of this three-match series. Bangladesh must ensure a good start with both bat and ball to create an advantageous environment and set themselves up for an emphatic win against their rival.

Pakistan narrowly defeated Bangladesh by eight runs at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka to open up their T20I series on a winning note in their inaugural match of T20Is on Tuesday evening. Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman proved effective bowlers, restricting Bangladesh to 110 in 20 overs; Jaker Ali scored unbeaten 56 to help Pakistan ease to victory with ease.

It marked their first meeting since Pakistan toured Bangladesh in 1954 where all five Test matches ended up tied, including an epic win at The Oval in which Fazal Mahmood took 12 wickets!

Squads

Pakistan can still salvage some pride in the third and final T20I against Bangladesh on Thursday at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka; Bangladesh however will look to complete their clean sweep against their neighbours by winning all three matches 3-0.

Pakistan were bowled out for 110 runs in 19.3 overs in their inaugural T20I against Australia after Parvez Hossain Emon’s unbeaten 56 off 39 balls led them to an intense win for their hosts. Taskin Ahmed claimed three wickets for 22 runs within three overs to control Pakistani batsmen.

While Pakistan have shown plenty of fight on the field, their batting has struggled to find any consistency. Over their last five innings they’ve only managed to score 133 runs – below par for them! Their top order has been particularly pathetic; only Fakhar Zaman and Abbas Afridi providing any real resistance.

Pakistan will need to improve with their bat if they hope to secure victory in this series. Unfortunately, the Pakistan Cricket Board have selected a squad without Babar Azam who is playing with Las Vegas Locomotives in Major League Cricket (MLC), along with fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf who were both rested by selectors.

Salman Ali Agha will remain in command as captain during this T20I series, showing continuity in leadership and providing new players an opportunity to step up and show what they can do under spin-friendly conditions at Sher-e-Bangla. It will be fascinating to witness this series!

Bangladesh have made two changes for this match against Pakistan, with Shoriful Islam and Naim Sheikh replacing Tanzid Tamim and Taskin Ahmed in their middle order – hoping to replicate their performance from earlier.

Results

Pakistan cricket team defeated Bangladesh by 13-4 in the first T20 match of their three-match T20 series played on May 28 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The second and third T20 matches will take place on May 30 and June 1, respectively.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first, only to face off against some disciplined bowling from Pakistan. They were reduced to 28 for 4 in six overs but Jaker Ali stood tall, contributing 55 off 48 balls – supported by Mahedi Hasan who added late runs – helping push past 130. Bangladesh bowlers made an impactful contribution as well; Shoriful Islam claimed two wickets during Powerplay while Tanzim Hasan Sakib secured one crucial wicket late on.

Pakistan made an inauspicious start in their pursuit, losing Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan early. But Parvez Hossain Emon and Towhid Hridoy managed to hold out and secure an unbroken 73-run stand to guarantee Bangladesh an emphatic win. Pakistan bowlers kept chipping away at their target but it wasn’t enough to prevent Bangladesh achieving victory.

SALMAN AGHA: “It was an absolutely thrilling game – both teams played some spectacular cricket – but at the end of it all we didn’t achieve what we desired. Our bowlers bowled extremely well at times during our innings but then leaked too many runs towards the end.”

Pakistan will travel to Bangladesh for a three-match Twenty20 International series beginning July 20th at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Mirpur.

After losing to Pakistan earlier in 2016, Bangladesh are eager to show them who’s boss by winning their maiden T20I series at home – not to mention being on top of ICC T20I rankings and leading this contest with such anticipation and intensity! This battle should prove truly fascinating.
