“PBKS need to score 92 off their last 102 balls and Harshit Rana bowled an outstanding over, featuring an off-stump fuller delivery that was swept toward long leg by Angkrish Raghuvanshi to where Quinton de Kock took an excellent catch for 8 runs from this over in the Punjab Kings Vs Kolkata Knight Riders Match Scorecard.”
Angkrish Raghuvanshi missed an over-pitched Glenn Maxwell delivery for six. Instead, he attempted a sweep but lost ground against Maxwell’s spinner and was bowled LBW by him. Raghuvanshi chose not to review his dismissal due to leg before wicket rules.

PBKS 201/4
Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh both scored fantastic half-centuries to help PBKS build an impressive total on Eden Gardens against an in-form Kolkata Knight Riders side. Together, the duo laid an excellent foundation, adding 69 off 36 balls for the opening stand; on his debut this season Priyansh demonstrated fluency by playing his natural game while using gaps between fielders wisely.
KKR’s openers struggled on a slow pitch, though captain Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer made strong cameos to help their side recover from an early setback. Unfortunately, however, towards the end of their innings KKR succumbed – both Andre Russell and Sunil Narine were hit for reverse swing in consecutive overs by Vaibhav Arora before Vaibhav Arora reduced run-rate further in his final over.
At 7-2 in the second over, KKR needed help from Ajinkya Rahane and Raghuvanshi to claw their way back in. A 17-ball contribution from Rahane and 37 from Raghuvanshi helped KKR recover, but Glenn Maxwell was unfortunately dismissed lbw trying to slog sweep Chahal in the next over; subsequent overs saw Glenn Maxwell fall lbw to Arora off first ball; Venkatesh Iyer stumped by Ravindra Jadeja on second ball. The middle order eventually collapsed; Ravindra Jadeja was quick thinking in stumping Venkatesh Iyer off second ball by Ravindra Jadeja’s quick thinking batsman Ravindra Jadeja’s quick thinking.
Varun Chakravarthy then struck to break the stand and stem KKR’s momentum. While Chakravarthy stuck to an accurate length and kept low, Arya was smart to play him straight bats while picking his angles well – walking at short deliveries while using space between mid-off and cover for his shots.
Arya was eventually out on the sixth ball of Chakravarthy’s over, having hit four fours and one six before succumbing to pace on his last ball and being caught at deep midwicket off a skier.
But Arya and Prabhsimran soon proved themselves with their speed, scoring at an astounding rate that far outshone the required 11 runs per over. By then, Arya and Prabhsimran appeared set for an over-230 score and their run rate far surpassed that of their opponents.
As soon as it started raining heavily, however, preparation of the outfield was delayed, leading to a puddle being formed on the pitch and forcing us to abandon this match after only 21 out of 40 available overs had been bowled. This match, the fourth this season to be abandoned after only one over was completed, saw both teams collect one point each. Tomorrow at the same time and with an altered target of 61 runs off five overs. It will be an extremely pivotal matchup, with KKR needing to win all their remaining matches to have any chance at retaining their title and avoid further slip-ups due to recent injuries to Shubman Gill and Shreyas. They will be eager to beat PBKS since their recent record against them has not been stellar.
KKR 111/8
Punjab Kings successfully defended the lowest total in IPL history to beat Kolkata Knight Riders on an exciting night at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh. Yuzvendra Chahal’s spectacular 4/28 bowling spell along with Marco Jansen’s three wickets ensured KKR were reduced to 95 runs in 15.1 overs – leaving hosts home team reeling from such an unexpected setback.
Chahal had been quiet this season after making such an impactful start, but suddenly made his presence felt with one bowl that brought out Gandalf-esque magic at just the right moment. Chahal kicked off their collapse by bowling an incredible delivery that pinged Ajinkya Rahane lbw for 17 as he went for a slog-sweep shot – Chahal had identified its drift perfectly and put it directly against Rahane’s pads, crunching Rahane against them both!
After this point, KKR collapsed quickly as their top four batsmen were removed in quick succession to go from 62/2 to 95 all out in quick time. Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh put up an excellent 39-run opening stand; once these two were gone it all unraveled quickly for them at home.
Middle order bowlers were also to blame, throwing away wickets through reckless play. Xavier Bartlett was run out while trying to steal second base from Glenn Maxwell while Ajinkya Rahane was caught behind the stumps by Chahal following an uncharacteristically poor slog-sweep stroke.
Dew had set in and the ball was bouncing harder than normal, leading KKR’s batsmen, anticipating an exciting contest, to attempt expansive shots early on which ultimately proved disastrous for them – an all too familiar tale of being too ambitious and paying the consequences.
KKR were still in contention after an impressive 55-run partnership between Angkrish Raghuvanshi (37) and Ajinkya Rahane (27) but Chahal was having none of it, dismissing Rahane with another slog-sweep which marked his third dismissal of the innings.
Chahal’s heroics, combined with Glenn Maxwell and Arshdeep Singh’s attack led by him and Arshdeep Singh’s efforts, enabled PBKS to secure its first win since last year’s playoffs and reach the top six of the table. Unfortunately for KKR though, their third consecutive defeat ended their hopes of qualifying for play-offs.
PBKS win
After losing their opening two matches of the season, PBKS have gone on an amazing turnaround, winning six. Reforming into one of the league’s premier bowling units – their fast bowlers were exceptional in restricting Royal Challengers Bangalore to just 190 runs! Unfortunately however, their batsmen let them down and missed opportunities cost them dearly.
Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh made an aggressive start, hitting boundaries at will; however, soon enough T Natarajan came on and his off-spinners made life difficult for both players.
This wicket was ideal for spinners, though it had the tendency to misbehave at shorter lengths and around the stumps. PBKS seamers took full advantage of its inherent qualities by using smart planning and skillful execution; their powerplay score dropped from 45 to 12 by its conclusion.
Virat Kohli struggled to get going, being dismissed after only 43 runs off 35 balls. Phil Salt, Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma all lost wickets at times when it seemed they might build upon promising starts – all but Livingstone who managed 36 off 12 balls found an effective way of attacking PBKS’ hard lengths successfully.
PBKS got within 15 runs of their target in the final over, thanks to more boundaries from PBKS batsman Shashank, but fell 10 runs short when Kyle Jamieson bowled an uppish slower ball towards Wadhera and Wadhera failed to produce sufficient elevation or power to clear long on.
It was an absolutely riveting match, a fitting end to an exceptional season for both teams. Unfortunately, one had to lose; such is the nature of this type of final. While one will emerge victorious as champions of their league, this final will go down as one of the most entertaining finales ever witnessed this season; unfortunately batsmen let us down; would have made for an epic contest; hopefully we’ll witness more thrilling action come playoff time! Good night everybody and #GoPBKS! – Virat Kohli (@viratkohli). Good night all and #GoPBKS
