Sri Lanka responded quickly, however, and Dunith Wellalage and Asalanka both scored double-wicket hauls to put pressure back on India’s batsmen. Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli batted sensibly but never seemed in control of their chase.
Axar and Washington Sundar both took multiple wickets to keep their hosts at bay, but Sundar’s potential hat-trick was denied when his throw hit off the stumps instead of going straight through to him.
Indian batsmen struggled in the final over to gain any grip on their chase for victory; however, they managed to pick up singles before Asalanka hit a six over cow corner and took his team to 184/6. Siraj trapped Samarawickrama LBW for a duck which Rohit successfully reviewed; Riyan Parag caught Asalanka lbw off Riyan Parag on the final delivery, as he tried to sweep and top edged straight into Pant’s hands keeper Pant’s hands; which ended all action and resulted in a tie; an amazing result for Sri Lanka but disappointing defeat for India; nonetheless both teams can take positives from this encounter!

Washington Sundar bowled an outstanding spell that denied Sri Lanka an opportunity to accelerate and seal victory for India.
As they attempted to avoid further blows, the visitors lost yet another wicket, with Kamindu Mendis’ edge falling foul of the keeper. But they still hold an impressive score on board and will hope to take this match through to its conclusion.
As Asitha Fernando bowled her second over for India and allowed nine runs in return, the other half of their side were back in the dugout – Shubman Gill taking his position alongside Riyan Parag who made his ODI debut today.

Sri Lanka have only ever won one T20I against India in history and they will hope to make amends following their humiliating loss in the first ODI. India are, however, far too strong in recent form to face off with them here and are thus clear favourites in this matchup.
