1. Altay Bayindir
Portugal have made short work of their Group F opponents so far and are two wins from two thanks to some shoddy Turkey defense. After an own goal from Samet Akaydin, Ronaldo scored directly off of a deflected pass while Bruno Fernandes hit home the third goal of the match.
After a brief stoppage, the referee blows for full time to an explosion of boos from home fans who feel hard done by some decisions but not as bad as some of their defending.
Montella opts for an experienced side after trusting youth against Czechia, with Arda Guler and Kenan Yildiz replacing Zeki Celik and Orkun Kokcu respectively with Arda Guler and Kenan Yildiz coming on in place of them. Joao Cancelo and Joao Neves make way for Vitinha and Rafael Leao; Joao Neves has also made way for Vitinha as Joao Neves are no longer needed in these competitions; Manchester City midfielder Antonio Valencia makes his first Euro 2024 appearance since 2014 with impressive records already.
2. Abdulkerim Bardakci
Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has been outstandingly effective for Portugal in their central role. He has provided unselfish service that has enabled them to win possession battles.
At 49 minutes, Akaydin recklessly throws the ball back to Bayindir without first realising their goalkeeper is out of position and it rolls into Portugal’s net. Their advantage increases.
At half-time, Turkey made changes with Orkun Kokcu replacing Yazici while Joao Neves and Pedro Neto replaced Rafa Leao and Joao Palhinha respectively for Portugal. At half-time the referee received widespread criticism over how he handled several incidents on the pitch but Portugal held onto victory to become group winners; becoming the inaugural team at Euro 2024 to do so! They fully deserve this triumphant win!
3. Kaan Ayhan
Portugal’s defense is sound, with Pepe at its forefront. He clears away an initial corner before heading away another follow-up attempt – looking good for an all-important clean sheet here!
Turkey’s defense seems vulnerable. Celik fails to cut out a lofted throughball from Ronaldo, who runs into space and stays onside while keeping onside – leading to him unselfishly square for Fernandes to tap home the goal.
Now the crowd has really rallied around Akaydin as Merih Demiral steps up for Akaydin to be replaced by Merih Demiral. A young fan attempted to run onto the field in an attempt to take a selfie with Ronaldo but was blocked by stadium security; nonetheless he received a standing ovation from Portuguese supporters. To have any hope of qualifying from Group F this game must go in favour of one side as otherwise they risk sliding into relegation danger.
4. Yunus Akgun
Barcelona star Jordi Alba fails to turn in Kerem Celik’s cross as Turkey fail to threaten Portugal’s goal.
Turkey were hit with another costly own goal as Akaydin backpassed to Bayindir without first checking that Portugal’s goalkeeper is in his correct place, failing to clear away his backpass and sending the ball rolling into their net and increasing Portugal’s lead by two goals.
Portugal took control of Group F with their first Euro tournament goal from Bernardo Silva as they cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory against an error-prone Turkey side at Signal Iduna Park, thanks to an own goal by Akaydin and Bruno Fernandes’ tap-in. Georgia and Czech Republic had earlier drawn 1-1; both have an excellent chance at qualifying for the knockout stages and Tim Spiers and Jacob Whitehead recap the key moments from that match.
5. Muhammed Akturkoglu
Portugal sealed their win and established themselves as serious Euro 2024 contenders with a decisive 4-3 win at Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund on Tuesday evening despite an embarrassing own goal and multiple selfie-chasing field invaders, leading FOX Soccer NOW through key talking points from this Group F match at Signal Iduna Park.
Turkey have another good opportunity when Celik cleverly steers past Leao to cross towards Orkun Kokcu; his attempt is blocked bravely by Pepe though Vitinha attempts to play Fernandes through, his pass being overhit; sub Yazici takes a long-range shot, only for Costa to easily save it – giving Turkey their last hope at survival!
6. Kenan Yildiz
Portugal are Euro 2024 group winners after an easy victory against Turkey at Euro 2024 in Dortmund. While Turkey made a good start against Georgia with a victory, they struggled against an aggressive Portuguese team led by Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafael Leao that proved too much for them.
Samet Akaydin’s bizarre own goal and Bruno Fernandes’ tap-in earned the European champions victory in their debut match at Signal Iduna Park stadium. Pepe was replaced with Antonio Silva as they left to an appreciative standing ovation from Portugal fans; one child managed to slip past security and run onto the pitch to take selfies with Ronaldo! Stewards quickly removed him; hopefully everything should be alright in due time.
7. Zeki Celik
Turkey and their fans will be looking forward to an improved performance from their team after suffering a shock defeat against Czech Republic in their initial Euro 2024 Group F game. As they take on Portugal in Dortmund, Turkey hopes that one step closer will be taken toward reaching the knockout rounds.
Zeki Celik had an opportunity for Turkey to score but his shot soared over the bar. Later, he made an incredible tackle against Orkun Kokcu to prevent him entering the box and score.
Ronaldo has been fairly ineffective thus far in attack, completing only 48 out of his 52 passes so far. He attempted a through ball for Fernandes but he shot wide from Manchester City’s midfield position; looking frustrated as Bardakci tackled him afterward.
8. Kenan Yilmaz
Signal Iduna Park was filled with singing Turkish fans before kickoff, but their voices have since fallen silent as a defensive mistake gifted Portugal their second goal. Joao Cancelo missed Ronaldo with an accurate pass while Akaydin rushed backwards without first checking Bayindir was still in position – leaving Ronaldo free to run into him and pass over the line unopposed.
Costa thwarted Akaydin’s attempt at scoring for Turkey with his diving save. At half-time, with both teams heading into their breaks with hopes that one team will go through as group winners, our official Opta match centre provides all of the latest team and individual stats as well as expected goals data, passing networks and much more for this match; updated live throughout its duration! 9. Arda Guler
Arda Guler has emerged as the star performer in Turkey’s Euro 2024 campaign after an outstanding run. The Real Madrid star hopes to reach the knockout rounds of a major tournament for the first time since 2008 and could certainly play his part with further heroic performances at Dortmund.
As Silva dinks over a cross, his header was just too high; then as soon as one-on-one with the goalkeeper he got his angles all wrong again!
An intruder dashes onto the pitch but is quickly chased off by stewards. Kerem Akturkoglu attempts to test Diogo Costa but his effort flies wide of his target; also forcing Costa into making an excellent save with low shot from behind him; however, Akturkoglu has yet to score against Portugal at any major tournament event.
10. Orkun Kokcu
Cristiano Ronaldo and Co are in complete control, despite some poor defending by Turkey. A Bernardo Silva run led to an unsuccessful shot from which Fernando Fernandes quickly took advantage to extend their lead further.
Orkun Kokcu was completely overshadowed by Bayern Munich defender Pepe in the first half, making his presence clear to Liverpool fans. This graph displays his average matchrating across all positions and compares him to his team-mates.
At Euro 2024 tournament he made an impactful statement and is already one of Turkey’s key performers, earning a place in top 10 for both tackles won and passes completed – two critical indicators. Should he decide to join Liverpool this summer he could play an essential part of team’s success.
