Bangladesh’s bowling attack
Bangladesh stands out among Full Member teams with their ability to bowl and bat with conviction. Their batting has seen marked improvements after an inconsistent start, particularly under new skipper Mustafizur Rahman; Taskin Ahmed; and Nahid Rana are rapidly maturing into an intimidating trio of seamers.
At South Africa’s ODI series victory for Bangladesh, seamers led by Taskin Ahmed led their charge. His contribution was especially crucial, helping reduce South African middle order runs from 46-0 to 154 all out in their second innings – marking what many consider as a major turning point in Bangladeshi cricket due to coach Mominul Haque’s push towards fast bowling, along with changes at both top level management levels of their squad.
Bangladesh’s seamers have finally begun showing their worth in major matches, which is a welcome development. Still, their consistency lags far behind that of Australia or England and will require greater support from teammates as they try to qualify for Super Fours.
Parvez Hossain Emon and Tanzid Hasan Tamim’s batting needs improvement as well, failing to impress. In order for their partnership to carry them deeper into games and take on powerful bowling attacks in the powerplay. Both openers struggled in these conditions and left the lower order struggling against an attack which featured some exceptional bowlers like Jadeja. If they want to avoid similar defeats again in future games, experimentation should be undertaken regarding opening combinations.
Afghanistan’s run-chase
Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat first on a slow pitch that proved challenging to score on. Their openers continued their scoring spree but soon were curtailed by an aggressive Bangladesh bowling attack; shortly afterwards a heavy rain shower stopped play for almost an hour, ending their run-chase attempt altogether.
Bangladesh attempted to regain momentum on return, but Rashid Khan turned back the clock with two wickets during the Powerplay to leave Bangladesh trailing 5-0 and Litton Das stumped off a googly delivered by Rashid in the ninth over – shifting momentum back in Afghanistan’s favour and keeping them ahead.
As both teams took turns scoring runs, both were able to contribute crucial ones regularly – however it was Rashid’s brilliant unbeaten 92-ball inning that enabled Afghanistan to post an impressive total of 255/7.
Bangladesh opened their innings with optimism as Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah put together an excellent partnership for the second wicket – sharing an unbeaten 97-run stand until rain interrupted play once more.
Once the match resumed, it became a competition between Bangladesh’s experienced bowlers and an Afghanistan attack led by Rashid and Gulbadin Naib – particularly during the final over when Naib struck two key blows to leave Bangladesh seemingly powerless to win back their match.
Mashrafe Mortaza quickly rallied his charges after an emotional defeat for Bangladesh, and quickly acknowledged their efforts. He noted how staying with the same group since last year’s T20 World Cup had enabled them to adapt and overcome setbacks better; working on individual weaknesses while improving game skills is also paramount in building stronger teams – particularly due to Bangladesh’s bowling attack making it hard for Afghan batsmen to exploit slow pitches, yet their batting line-up proved well equipped enough against attacks from their bowlers.
Afghanistan’s victory
Afghanistan’s cricket team has made tremendous strides despite numerous setbacks and challenges over time, becoming an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council in 2001 and attaining one-day international status by 2009.
They then participated in their inaugural World Cup qualifier tournament a year later – fighting hard before placing second overall! It marked an incredible achievement by an independent nation which had only recently gained full membership status by the ICC.
Afghanistan made history the following year when they defeated Scotland in two T20 International matches and Zimbabwe in both One Day Internationals (ODIs). By doing this, Afghanistan became the first associate country ever to advance to the second phase of a World Twenty20 tournament.
Additionally, in July 2014 they played Zimbabwe in their inaugural bilateral ODI series against full members of the ICC and won both by vast margins; furthermore they participated in their inaugural ICC Trophy match as an associate country and came third overall!
Afghanistan’s batting performance was outstanding, yet their bowling was the real star of the show. Bilal Sami and Rashid Khan’s exceptional bowling kept Bangladesh to a low score; marking Afghanistan’s biggest ODI win at Sharjah Stadium and first against a test-playing nation.
