Points table

Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan’s stunning 114-run partnership provided the basis of Gujarat Titans’ dominant 39-run win against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Monday.

They were instrumental in building a substantial total for GT on a track which proved difficult for batsmen, smashing 10 fours and three sixes during an unbeaten effort which helped Sudharsan reclaim the Orange Cap from Nicholas Pooran.

GT’s victory strengthened their chances of taking first place in the points table – they now possess 12 from eight matches, two ahead of Delhi Capitals – while also improving their odds at winning one of four remaining playoff spots.

KKR suffered their third defeat in five matches since being defeated by Punjab Kings last time out and now sit four points behind GT and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Ajinkya Rahane led his side’s fightback with an outstanding half century score before they were eventually bowled out for just 159 runs.

Defending champions FC Copenhagen must improve quickly if they hope to make the playoffs, or face another difficult test when hosting Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens on Monday.

This game will pit two powerhouse teams against one another in an exhilarating contest, with the winner set to make an impressionful statement about who should advance further in the tournament.

KKR are looking for revenge following their 16-run loss against Punjab Kings while GT will aim to extend their winning streak and increase their chances of making the semi-final four.

Match schedule

The 2025 Indian Premier League season kicked off on Tuesday and will run through May 18th. Featuring 10 teams divided into two groups with each side playing each team twice within their group, only the top four teams from each will advance to playoffs and Monday will see Kolkata Knight Riders host Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

FOX CRICKET will broadcast this match live and available on Kayo Sports. KKR were hoping to return from suffering a crushing defeat at Punjab Kings in their previous match and keep alive any slim hopes they had of qualifying for playoffs with a victory against Gujarat.

Gujarat currently hold six points from eight matches and must maintain form if they want to avoid repeating last year’s final.

Even with Jos Buttler’s outstanding effort, KKR’s batsmen were unable to match GT’s pace as they were reduced to 113-8 by the 15th over.

Hosts could only muster 59 runs in the final five overs before falling to their fifth loss this season due to Ajinkya Rahane’s poor form with bat; even after reaching half century off 36 balls!

Gujarat’s bowlers kept KKR to just 114 in their first innings, thanks to Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan’s outstanding partnership of 114 runs that effectively nullified any chance of them reaching their target.

On the field, Gujarat’s spinners made most of the difference as both Sai Kishore and Washington Sundar took wickets during the powerplay to keep GT at the top of the table. Angkrish Raghuvanshi added his share by picking up one wicket as well.

KKR’s loss was their fifth of the season and will have an adverse effect on their hopes of making one of three remaining playoff spots.

If they wish to challenge for top four positions, their batting and bowling performances must improve substantially.

Predictions

Eden Gardens pitch should be dry with some turn available to spinners. Teams batting first have historically held an edge at Eden Gardens and scores over 180 may prove competitive under lights.

Both teams have winning chances but KKR may have the edge due to their home comforts and potent spin attack; however, their batting has been inconsistent this season and are vulnerable under pressure.

Gujarat’s bowlers have been impressive, giving them a good chance of victory in this match. Meanwhile, Jos Buttler looks set to continue his phenomenal form batting at number three for Gujarat in their batting line-up.

Unfortunately though, their side has struggled in scoring runs during death overs and they must improve this area to remain at the top of their league table.

KKR’s recent defeat against Punjab Kings was embarrassing and their batting lineup failed in critical situations.

To address their woes in these instances, Gurbaz Singh must replace Quinton de Kock as captain in their batting order and improve on their sloppy catching which has been an issue all season.

GT has faced off against Kolkata on four separate occasions throughout IPL history, winning two matches while two ended in draws. On Monday at Eden Gardens in Kolkata both teams are hoping for victory to keep their playoff chances alive.

The match will be shown live on Star Sports and JioHotstar at 7:30 PM IST and promises to be an exciting contest between these two sides.

Fans should expect an exciting contest, with one side hoping for victory to move back up the points table, while KKR looking for redemption within top six ranks.

Shubman Gill scored an outstanding unbeaten 90 off 55 balls to help Gujarat Titans (GT) thrash Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 39 runs at Eden Gardens.

GT batsmen dominated from start to finish as they perfectly assessed conditions; Sai Sudharsan and Gill shared an opening stand of 114 to set the scene for an enormous total; Jos Buttler’s 41 off 23 deliveries provided some hope for KKR, yet their innings only produced 59 runs in total.

KKR are entering this match having suffered a disappointing loss against Punjab Kings and still have hopes of reaching the playoffs. To get back into contention they will look to rebound from this defeat by improving both their batting and bowling performances in order to put themselves back into contention. They boast talented batsmen such as Sunil Narine and Quinton de Kock but have struggled to make big contributions so far.

Eden Gardens weather forecast for tomorrow’s match looks promising with no chance of rain in sight and temperatures in the high 30s with only slight breeze.

Pitch conditions should be ideal with plenty of grass coverage providing ideal batting conditions; dew may reduce grip strength for fast bowlers while slowing ball speeds slightly.

Both teams will hope for an ideal wicket that suits their style of play – KKR will aim for an arm-spin friendly surface to aid their slow bowlers while GT will aim to find one more conducive to batsman success and ensure victory.

These two teams have faced each other five times during this year’s IPL season and each have won three matches, although KKR won by 16 runs at home last time around.

A win against GT will put KKR back in contention for first spot while defeat will push them even further away from playoff contention or possibly put an end to their season altogether.
