West Indies will make their first ODI series appearance against India since being defeated by England at Lord’s in July 2017 for their Test innings. Under Kraigg Brathwaite’s captaincy, they hope to turn things around against his former side.

Brathwaite’s Windies team boasts several talented players who earned themselves lucrative contracts at the IPL auction, such as Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Kieron Pollard and Shamarh Brooks – who can use this chance to excel for them ahead of their ODI series against India.

At Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, India will be led by stand-in captain Shikhar Dhawan and is likely to field an experimental squad which includes several first-choice players being rested such as Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant; all are likely to continue as regular batsmen for India.

Ravindra Jadeja and Mohd Siraj will lead India’s bowling attack while Axar Patel, Deepak Hooda, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson and Avesh Khan aim to produce results on the visitors side with the ball.

India and West Indies tour is an important one, as both teams look to hone their white-ball strategies ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. Kieron Pollard-led Windies would hope to end a winless run in ODIs while also reclaiming top position in T20 Internationals (T20Is).

India will look to make a statement at Queen’s Park Oval and prove they possess what it takes to win this year’s T20 World Cup. West Indies will be led by Kieron Pollard and will feature several players from the Indian Premier League 2022 auction that took place last month. Nicholas Pooran was the most expensive bidder at that auction; other experienced stars like Shimron Hetmyer – who was left off T20I due to fitness considerations – will also join him on their squad.
