Punjab vs. Kerala
Punjab has long been a source of players who wear the Indian jersey, a point made directly by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann at the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League 2026’s launch. The Sher-E-Punjab is the state’s first franchise-based T20 tournament, with city-branded teams battling each other through a player auction and salary purse for the right to lift the trophy.
The inaugural edition of Sher-E-Punjab features six city franchises: Fazilka Falcons, Ludhiana Lions, Amritsar Soormaaz, Jalandhar Warriors, Mohali Kings and Bathinda Royals. Each side will play 27 matches, including 24 in the league stage and two knockout games to reach the Final.

1st Innings
The Sher-e-Punjab T20 League debuts on August 30 and runs through September 13 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.
The tournament features 24 league-stage games, followed by two semi-finals and a final. It is a unique format that differs from the IPL in that the squads are picked by state selectors rather than auctioned out, and none of 2023-24’s six teams carry forward into this season.
A batting-heavy team, Punjab have been among the stronger sides in each of the past four seasons but are yet to win their first IPL title. George Bailey captained a revamped side in 2014 and they started at a scorching pace, finishing second in the league stage but falling short in the final by six runs chasing 191. Glenn Maxwell was their best run-scorer, while David Miller showed glimpses of his former self, but it wasn’t enough to keep them above water.
Last year they struggled to make an impact, winning only a single game from their first eight matches. But they improved after a major overhaul and R Ashwin was named captain.
Iyer was their top run-scorer, while the likes of Nehal Wadhera and Prabhsimran Singh all performed well. However, a series of agonisingly close defeats halted any chance of a playoff berth. A tepid revival in the latter stages saw them finish sixth with six wins.
2nd Innings
The Sher-e-Punjab T20 League is Punjab’s first franchise-based Twenty20 tournament. It launched on 8 August 2026, with the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann calling it “Punjab’s very own IPL.” That’s not too far from the truth: It focuses India internationals into city-branded teams that compete in a round-robin league before moving into knockouts, and it uses an auction to build squads rather than state selectors picking sides.
The competition is also homegrown: all players, from marquee names to district-level picks, must be from the Punjab cricket talent pool. Those restrictions have ensured that the six franchises—Fazilka Falcons, Ludhiana Lions, Amritsar Soormaaz, Jalandhar Warriors, Mohali Kings and Bathinda Bulls—have been packed with talent.
The Sher-e-Punjab Tournament points table will be updated after every match, using standard T20 league scoring. A win earns two points, while a loss is zero. A tie or no-result will split one point, and net run rate decides rankings when teams finish level on points. 3rd Innings
Punjab’s Sher-e-Punjab T20 League is a homegrown franchise T20 tournament where every player must hail from the state. While the competition borrows a bit from IPL rules, it is still firmly Punjab cricket – and this season is no different. With six city teams playing 27 matches in a round-robin league, then the knockouts, the 2026 Sher-e-Punjab League championship is shaping up to be one of the most closely contested yet.
The tournament starts on August 30 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, the newer of the two Punjab’s two international venues (the older is I.S. Bindra Stadium in Mohali). A win earns a team two points, while a loss is worth zero and a tie, no-result or abandoned match splits one point between the teams. Ties are broken on net run rate – the difference between how fast a team scores and how fast it concedes.

4th Innings

The six city teams — Fazilka Falcons, Ludhiana Lions, Amritsar Soormaaz, Bathinda Royals, Jalandhar Warriors, and Mohali Kings — will battle through the league stage and knockouts towards the Final at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.
As is standard in most domestic T20 leagues, points are awarded according to a regular round-robin format. A win earns two points, a loss zero, and ties and abandoned matches split one point each. In case of a tie, net run rate determines the ranking. Match results and scorecards are updated after the end of every innings.

5th Innings
