Man of the Match: Prabhsimran Singh

On a day of celebration for Lohri, Punjab defeated title contenders Madhya Pradesh to qualify for the final of Vijay Hazare Trophy. The North Indian side posted a huge total of 345 runs, built on a strong 116-run opening stand between skipper Prabhsimran Singh and Harnoor Singh. Quickfire knocks from Nehal Wadhera and Anmolpreet Singh ensured that the middle order did not falter under pressure.

In response, Madhya Pradesh were never in the chase, as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Despite a fighting 38 from Rajat Patidar, they were bowled out for 162 in 31.2 overs. Gurnoor Brar and Sanvir Singh starred with the ball, taking two wickets each for Punjab.

A superb recovery from Punjab as the run-rate is well over 5 runs per over. Skipper Prabhsimran Singh is close to his half-century as the North Indian batsmen look to push the target higher. Harnoor is also looking in good touch and is scoring at a decent rate. But for now, it’s the end of the road for Madhya Pradesh in their attempt to reach the final.

Man of the Match: Harnoor Singh

Harnoor Singh continues his fine run of form as he strikes a half-century off 71 balls. It has certainly boosted Punjab’s hopes of posting a 300+ total in the remaining seven overs. The North Indians will be looking to wrap up the win with a flourish.

Naman Dhir and Anmolpreet Singh are the new batsmen in and they must be quick to raise the tempo. Tripuresh Singh lands the wicket of Prabhsimran Singh but it isn’t enough to keep MP from crumbling.

With an outstanding innings of 83 off just 54 balls, Anmolpreet Singh has given Punjab the edge they needed in this quarter-final clash. The North Indian batter is having a stellar Vijay Hazare Trophy, having smashed four half-centuries in three games, including the crucial 96-ball effort against Fazilka Falcons in Mohali’s last league match.

A brilliant start from the Punjab batsmen – a 116-run opening stand between Prabhsimran and Harnoor – helped them post a massive total of 345 runs on the board. And although the run-rate dipped after the dismissal of Yash Dubey, Nehal Wadhera and Anmolpreet have ensured that the innings is not over just yet.

Nehal Wadhera’s quickfire 56 off 38 balls and Anmolpreet’s 70 off 62 have significantly increased Punjab’s chances of reaching the 300-run mark. However, a few overs back Tripuresh Singh struck to dent Madhya Pradesh’s hopes.

It’s a matter of pride for Anmolpreet that his superb knock against a tough Madhya Pradesh side earned him the man-of-the-match award. The right-handed batsman’s 83-ball knock included 11 fours and 12 sixes. His innings was a perfect example of the relentless grit that Punjab displayed in their quest for a domestic title on Lohri.

Anmolpreet has a lot to live up to with his upcoming IPL comeback in the next couple of days. But the North Indian has shown that he’s more than capable of playing big matches. His brilliant innings against a formidable Madhya Pradesh side today will go down as one of the highlights of his T20 career. This match will surely give Anmolpreet the confidence boost he needs to be a force to reckon with once again.

Man of the Match: Nehal Wadhera

Nehal Wadhera is a stylish left-hand batsman who looks up to fellow Punjab team-mate Yuvraj Singh for inspiration. He stroked a fluent 81 on his U-19 debut, a knock that brought him into the limelight. The Mumbai Indians scouts saw potential in him and picked him up at the 2023 auction. He made his Ranji debut soon after and has been impressive with the bat. He smashed 578 for Ludhiana in the semifinals of the Punjab State Inter-district tournament against Bathinda U-23.
