PBKS vs MI

Shreyas Iyer scored an outstanding 87 off 41 balls as PBKS secured a 7-wicket win over MI in Ahmedabad’s opening Qualifier of IPL 2025 Qualifier 1.

His innings was composed and classy, perfectly supported by Nehal Wadhera as they chased down their target in just over 18 overs.

Due to increasing tensions between India and Pakistan, due to schedule issues or simply for security purposes it was decided to move the game from Dharamsala to Ahmedabad instead. Both teams fought hard in this pivotal match in an effort to finish in the top-two of their respective tables.

Even after losing Prabhsimran early in the powerplay, Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis managed to build an impressive partnership for the second wicket.

By the 14th over they had taken their score to 142/2 before Chahal struck twice to end any hopes they may have of an unassailable total; first by dismissing Inglis in an attempted sweep attempt and then by Arya hitting straight up to long-on.

After taking a strategic timeout, Nehal Wadhera and Shreyas executed another stunning showpiece batting partnership of 84 runs in just 10 overs to take their score to 212/4 at halfway stage of chase.

Unfortunately though, key wickets slowed momentum before Jasprit Bumrah made his mark by striking for three wickets within four overs to end this innings with 3/20 spell in four overs!

With their loss, MI have fallen to fifth in the standings and must win all of their remaining matches in order to finish in the top two.

They do, however, face two lower half teams so may see opportunities to make up ground through strong performances in these matches.

Meanwhile, PBKS will face Delhi Capitals in another eliminator and will have their chance at becoming the third team ever in IPL history to qualify for a final.

Shreyas Iyer has led two different franchises to finals in two consecutive years – an amazing achievement indeed! Today’s match was an instant classic; some great performances can be remembered from both teams, yet Shreyas Iyer deserves all of the credit for his effort in leading his side towards glory.

MI vs PBKS

Indian cricket fans anticipate any matchup between India’s two dominant teams with great anticipation, not only due to the intense rivalry that exists between them but also because it often acts as a microcosm of national cricket – both teams boast big-name players but can struggle during crucial moments of pressure.

This was one such contest as PBKS vs MI was decided in a thrilling finish, thanks to Shreyas Iyer’s outstanding innings that propelled PBKS over the line in 19 overs with four sixes from him and gave them an unforgettable victory during a high-octane encounter.

PBKS got their match underway quickly when they won the toss and elected to bowl first, opting to strike early by bowling both Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah out early on and thus reduce MI’s batting power and allow PBKS to gain momentum in their innings.

They reached an impressive 102/2 after 20 overs but then suffered rapid wickets that saw them slip quickly to 139/6, though Naman Dir’s cameo of 37 runs off 18 balls provided some much-needed spark and helped push them past 200 runs.

Even after their poor start, they were still in a strong position to reach the finals – however rain caused havoc, forcing a postponement for over two hours as the field became unplayable.

Once the play resumed, PBKS proved dominant as they picked up key wickets to secure themselves an advantageous position in the match. Omarzai and Stoinis each took two wickets while Chahal and Jamieson also each claimed one wicket each.

The final was an absolute must for both teams as only the winner would qualify for it. PBKS were clear favorites in this matchup but Iyer led his side brilliantly from the front. His calm demeanor under pressure made him such an effective leader.

Iyer was delighted to lead his side into an IPL final for the first time ever this season, and will look to repeat that achievement against RCB next week.

He has led three different sides – DC in 2020, KKR in 2024 and now PBKS – into IPL finals – DC in 2020, KKR in 2024 and now PBKS this year – in total winning all of them by standing behind his captain at the end of every game and patting him on the back at its conclusion – something many young Indian players can look up to.
