The East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL) is a Scottish non-league based in southeast Scotland and one of three senior non-leagues to exist outside of Scotland’s Scottish Football League. Recently it has seen several clubs transfer over from South of Scotland Football League, such as Annan Athletic and Dalbeattie Star.
Lothian Thistle
Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale was established in 1969, competing in the East of Scotland Football League which serves as fifth tier of Scottish football pyramid system and provides access to Scottish Professional Football League. Their headquarters can be found in Edinburgh.
Thistle began life as the Ferranti Amateurs works football team of electronics firm Ferranti. After five seasons at welfare level, Thistle moved up into the East Region South Division of the Scottish Junior Football Association.
This decision proved highly successful and saw them win two titles back-to-back – 2013-14 and 2014-15 – before reaching the third round of the Scottish Cup competition for 2017-18 and becoming SFA members to gain automatic entry into competitions like this.
Civil Service Strollers
The Edinburgh Civil Service Strollers are an amateur football club based out of Edinburgh, Scotland, founded in 1908. Since their inaugural match at Stenhouse Stadium in Corstorphine they have moved onto Pinkhill Park before finally relocating again in 1957 to Muirhouse as part of Edinburgh Area Civil Service Sports Association where they continue playing today.
The East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL) is one of three senior non-league leagues in Scotland. Operating as a two-tier system, clubs are promoted and relegated each season; often considered stronger than SoSFL.
The EoSFL currently boasts 80 member clubs spread out among five divisions. Geographically, its reach spans from the Scottish Borders to Glasgow; additionally it contains several clubs from Dumfries and Galloway region.
Dunbar United
Dunbar United play in the East of Scotland Football League, a Scottish football league system operating across levels 6-9 of the senior pyramid. This league serves as an feeder into the Lowland League; having existed for more than 90 years it stands out as an industry landmark.
The club has seen good times and bad, yet remain active, most notably their triumph in winning the Junior Cup against Cambuslang Rangers at Hampden after a replay after drawing 2-2 in the original final.
After being relegated in 2021-22 to East of Scotland First Division, they continued their progress by building a new stand and creating an under-20s team – currently topping their league and boasting healthy attendance figures which stands as testament to the committee.
Burntisland Shipyard
Burntisland Shipyard finished last season at the bottom of their league, yet optimism is growing within their club following a summer of reconstruction. They will compete this year in the Lowland/EOS U20 Development League while their first team has been reconfigured as a reserve side to increase squad depth and allow players to progress into senior team.
In 1919, a recreation fund funded by weekly subscriptions from workers at the shipyard was established as a means to provide recreational facilities for them and establish cricket and bowls clubs along with two football teams at junior and juvenile levels.
Recreation Park, Kerr Court, Burntisland is our home ground and this document outlines all regulations to be observed whilst present there (“The Ground”). These include an unauthorised person offering match programs or food or beverages from any source being banned by both our club and East of Scotland Football League.
Leith Athletic
After the success of their previous shirt with Leith Athletic, Paolozzi worked closely with them again to produce another striking shirt in their new colors – one which still stayed true to Leith Athletic’s original colour scheme while standing out among contemporary football jerseys. The end result? A shirt which stands out among its peers while remaining true to Leith Athletic.
Leith Athletic FC was reformed in 1996 as Leith Athletic FC and now functions primarily as a junior grassroots community football club with teams for all age groups up to under-21s. Additionally, their senior team competes in the East of Scotland League.
The East of Scotland Football League has released an intense fixture list for the opening weekend of their 2017/18 campaign, including Kirkcaldy & Dysart and Thornton Hibs both taking on Leith Athletic and Burntisland Shipyard respectively in first division fixtures away. Furthermore, Edinburgh University have postponed their match against Civil Service Strollers until Saturday 27 July and this means it may also happen over this opening weekend.
Dunipace
The East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL) is a Scottish football league which operates from levels 6-10 on the Scottish football pyramid system. Based in Edinburgh and the Borders, with clubs from Dumfries and Galloway as well as Dumfries. One of three “senior” non-leagues outside the Scottish Football League; alongside Highland and South of Scotland Leagues; however it is typically considered weaker than both.
In 2024, Broxburn Athletic won their maiden league championship – beating Musselburgh Athletic on goal difference – and were promoted through a play-off against Dalbeattie Star. Additionally, the EoSFL hosts several regional cups, such as Hearts Reserve Team’s East of Scotland Shield competition; first division play commences this weekend when Kirkcaldy & Dysart head out against Bo’ness Athletic for their opening fixture of 2019.
Gala Fairydean Rovers
Galashiels Football Club currently competes in the Lowland League after being promoted from East of Scotland Football League 2024-25, having previously won 13 Border Amateur Football League championships.
Gala have already seen success this season under Martin Scott’s management, winning their inaugural John McLay Memorial Cup after defeating Linlithgow Rose on penalties in the EoSFL East of Scotland Cup final. It marked Gala’s first trophy win since joining Fairydean Rovers a decade earlier.
In 2007-08, this tournament was created as a replacement for the Scottish Qualifying Cup South, which had been discontinued that year. Open to senior non-league clubs excluding Hearts and Hibernian Reserve Teams; its winner earns entry into round two of the Scottish Cup.
Linlithgow Rose
Since 1949, The Rose have enjoyed an illustrious history full of exciting highlights. Over its 70-year existence, The Rose have won multiple Scottish FA Grassroots Awards including Scottish Club of the Year 2014.
Under Jim Sinnet’s direction, Rose reached the fourth round of the Junior Cup by defeating Bo’ness United 3-1, as well as winning the East of Scotland Shield – an annual one-off match between Hearts’ youth/reserve teams and Hibernian’s youth/reserve sides.
However, in recent years the club has been facing financial difficulty and as such was forced to let manager Mark Bradley go in June 2021 and change chairman in October 2022. They now have Brian Fairley serving as their director in charge and this has enabled significant investments into their ground.
Tranent Juniors
