ODI 1: Sri Lanka vs West Indies

West Indies cricket team, commonly referred to as Calypso cricketers, dominated in the 1970s and 80s with fearsome fast bowling and destructive batting, becoming the first team ever to win back-to-back World Cups and becoming unofficial world champions.

Unfortunately, in modern era, their success hasn’t quite kept up; nonetheless they continue to put on thrilling displays of cricket that generate plenty of excitement during matches.

This particular match was an One Day International (ODI), a 50-overs-a-side contest designed for building innings and turning games on their head. Pallekele’s batsman-friendly pitch, but can assist spinners later in the match, was ideal for creating momentum quickly.

Rain also added another layer of complexity with Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method adjusting scores due to weather events.

Sri Lanka’s openers responded admirably in spite of losing Dinesh Chandrasekhar early, rising to the challenge with style and class. Nissanka and Mendis batted ably, scoring fifties to set up their run chase; Powell and Motie played cameo roles to provide Windies some impetus.

But the Windies bowlers displayed great pace and variety to put Sri Lanka under immense pressure. Joseph’s brilliant bouncer to Nissanka left them reeling at 40/2 before Asalanka and Chase rallied valiantly for recovery.

At 196/7, it seemed the pitch would provide ample opportunities for high-scoring action; however, rain intervened to delay proceedings for three-and-a-half hours and revise the target to 232 from 37 overs via DLS method.

Windies bowlers were on form, with Joseph and Gudakesh Motie bowling aggressively to derail Sri Lankan momentum before counterattacking with urgency to achieve their target relatively swiftly.

Shai Hope stole the show with an exceptional knock of 125 not out from only 95 balls – complete with four sixes! His celebration was an absolute treat!

This thrilling innings ended the match on an exhilarating note; further ODI series fixtures will continue at this same venue on Friday.

ODI 2: Sri Lanka vs West Indies

The West Indies cricket team represents the Caribbean region of the International Cricket Council and is headquartered in Jamaica; one of four original Test ‘nations’. Since 1975 and 1979 respectively, they have won both ICC Cricket World Cups as well as both T20 World Cups.

The Windies have emerged as one of the world’s top cricket nations, especially at home. At the ODI World Cup they have won five out of their eight matches so far and appear set for quarter-final qualification. Their win against Sri Lanka was their largest to date and cemented their place as tournament favorites.

While once considered unofficial world champions, West Indies team achieved its greatest glory during the 1970s when they won three consecutive World Cups and were undefeated at The Oval.

Furthermore, they are widely recognized as pioneering the black-dominated format of Twenty20 cricket which they pioneered back in 1976 before helping professional Twenty20 become an international league in 1992.

After an extended delay due to rain, play finally resumed at Sher-e-Bangshahi stadium with Sri Lanka being placed at 81/1 after 17.2 overs.

Opening batsmen Nissanka and Mendis established a firm foundation for their innings by scoring fifties each while keeping scoring rates steady.

With the series now tied 1-1, Eden Gardens will host the final ODI match of this series this Sunday. Expect high scoring action between both teams as both look for victory.

The Windies are the reigning ODI World Cup champions and will aim to defend their crown. Boasting talents like Jason Holder, Shamar Springer, and Marlon Samuels – and lead by experienced captain Chamari Athapaththu who boasts considerable ODI World Cup experience – the Windies should make strong contenders once more for 2024 victory.

ODI 3: Sri Lanka vs West Indies

The West Indies cricket team, commonly referred to as the Windies, represents its region in international men’s cricket. Based in the Caribbean region, it competes in Test matches, one-day internationals (ODIs), and twenty20 internationals (T20Is).

Led by captain Jermaine Blackwood and managed by West Indies cricket board. Current roster includes Alzarri Joseph, Joshua Da Silva, Tagenarine Chanderpaul Kraigg Brathwaite Shannon Gabriel Jomel Warrician. Phil Simmons and Darren Sammy coach the team.

The Windies will travel to Sri Lanka for three ODI matches and three T20I matches beginning October 18. The first match will be hosted by Mirpur before moving onto Chattogram for match number two; before finishing their tour with three T20Is in each city.

Sri Lanka defeated Windies by eight wickets in their third ODI match on Friday. After retaining possession and electing to bat first, Sanath Jayasuriya and Marvan Atapattu scored freely; Atapattu scoring an unbeaten 107 to help make up their total of 338 runs against Windies’ 247 runs in reply. Jason Holder, Corey Anderson, and Dwayne Smith took multiple wickets each during Windies innings bowling performances.

Sri Lanka then went on to beat India by nine wickets in their next ODI, marking their biggest ever ODI win over them and third consecutive 170-plus run chase in this tournament. Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka contributed quick runs that enabled Sri Lanka’s target to be reached quickly in 18.1 overs thanks to Lasith Malinga taking two hat-tricks within one match; only four other bowlers have managed such feat in history.

ODI 4: Sri Lanka vs West Indies

Sri Lanka will look to extend their winning run in this fourth match of the series at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh with play beginning at 10:30 am local time.

West Indies cricket team is an international cricket side representing Caribbean regions of the world in international cricket competition. Representing multiple nationalities from across its territory, it has made three consecutive World Cup finals – becoming the first team ever to do so and winning it twice between 1975 and 1979 – as well as becoming the inaugural team ever to claim two back-to-back ICC Champions Trophy titles, between 2022-2024.

The Windies currently rank sixth worldwide in One Day International cricket and second for Twenty20 cricket. They have won nine out of 15 matches this year and remain undefeated over their last five matches in this format. Under Dwayne Bravo’s leadership, their ODI side have scored 764 runs in four innings this year alone!

West Indies fast bowler Pat Cummins made an impactful statement against South Africa by taking eight wickets at World Test Championship final. This marked an improvement on his previous three ODI performances of four wickets each time.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Marlon Samuels, two left-handed batsmen who have both shown impressive form for their country recently, also returned as major contributors.

Australia have named two spinners in their squad: Nathan Lyon and Matthew Kuhnemann are expected to feature. Lyon led Australia to victory against Sri Lanka 2-0 last month, while Kuhnemann made a strong first impression against New Zealand by picking up two maiden ODI scalps of his own. Dunith Wellalage will provide added depth in attack for Australia during their tour.
