Pakistan vs West Indies
West Indies defeated Pakistan by an innings and 295 runs at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad. They were in control from start to finish and produced an outstanding performance, led by Shai Hope with five sixes and 10 fours from his 94-ball knock. Justin Greaves shared an unbroken seventh-wicket stand of 110 with him which enabled West Indies to post 294-6 after 28 overs batting only 28 overs with Mohammad Rizwan being dismissed early due to an accidental golden duck while Jayden Seales produced figures of 6-18 from just 7.2 overs bowled against Pakistan!
Windies bowlers applied consistent pressure on a disciplined Pakistani team. Keacy Carty and Romario Shepherd each took two wickets, while Sherfane Rutherford and Gudakesh Motie each claimed one wicket each. Pakistan’s batsmen struggled on an unpredictable pitch which offered perfect conditions for Windies spinners to bowl their magic.
Pakistan’s top order collapsed early as they fell to 23-4 by the ninth over. Opener Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique both scored ducks before Sherfane Rutherford removed Mohammad Rizwan for no runs off Sherfane Rutherford before Babar Azam and Salman Agha struggled to score big runs.
Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed expressed disappointment with the result but was pleased with their performance in this match. They tried to adapt according to circumstances while keeping run scoring going, and have momentum heading into T20 World Cup preparations. Sarfraz also applauded young members in the squad he said he is particularly proud of them for showing their talent at such an early age despite covid issues keeping them awake at night; it gives these talents an opportunity to shine! He complimented Pakistan’s bowlers on their impressive showing.
1st Test
Pakistan and West Indies began the inaugural Test match between them with much optimism, both teams looking forward to what could be an exciting series. The pitch provided plenty of assistance for spinners – something Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam quickly exploited with both scoring fine centuries to put their sides into an advantageous position on day one.
Due to wet outfield conditions and worsening weather, play was interrupted early. Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales regularly took wickets from Pakistan openers reducing them to single figures – forcing the game to end as planned.
West Indies batsmen again struggled against spinners, with only Alick Athanaze reaching fifty. Abrar Ahmed and Sajid Khan each took five wickets as the visitors were dismissed for just under 100 runs.
In their opening innings, hosts India made an excellent start, with both Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan scoring unbeaten centuries to give their side an early advantage of around 100 runs. But in their second innings they quickly fell away as Jomel Warrican took 7 wickets on his way to scoring his maiden seven-fer in Test cricket – an incredible turnaround that resulted in them all-out for just 157.
With their victory, Pakistan notched their inaugural win of 2018, moving them up three places in Test rankings and marking Shan Masood’s inaugural win as Pakistan captain since taking charge.
On January 25th, both teams will reunite for the second Test match in Multan and it is crucial that one side takes control of this series if it remains tied 1-1.
This series will serve as an important barometer of progress between both teams following South Africa. A victory by Pakistan would give their hopes of defending their title a huge boost and put them one step closer to taking home all three wins in this tournament.
2nd Test
After winning the opening Test, Pakistan will look to secure series victory in the second Test. Led by Sajid Khan and Noman Ali’s bowlers, Pakistan are in complete control of this match thanks to their spinners dismantling West Indies’ batting line-up; Pakistan could easily secure a 2-0 victory; however they must improve their batting performances, especially with Babar Azam having experienced difficulties recently.
On January 25 at 10:00 AM IST at Multan Cricket Stadium, the 2nd Test will begin. The first session is set to run until 12:30 PM, followed by a 40-minute lunch break before session 2 commences at 3:30 PM and concludes by 9:00 PM IST.
Pakistan struggled with their bat on what should have been a spin-friendly pitch in their first innings and were all out for 244. Their second innings started strongly though with Faheem Ashraf making a half century off just 67 balls; however, only Babar Azam managed a similar feat from their top order batsmen.
Pakistan’s middle-order batsmen have struggled to capitalise on their momentum, with Saim Ayub falling for a duck and Mohammad Rizwan being caught behind – both from an England perspective – while Kraigg Brathwaite managed an unbeaten 86 for Australia against them.
West Indies have not won a Test match in Pakistan since 1984 and winning will provide them with an enormous boost for future Test matches – it could even determine their progression as they expect more Test matches ahead.
Pakistan and West Indies have played 56 Test matches between them, with Pakistan winning 22 while West Indies winning 19. Additionally, four one-day internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 internationals have taken place between them; all victories for West Indies came via three victories in T20Is against them. Pakistan most recently defeated West Indies with a three match ODI series win against them at home in 2024 which marked their first success since 2006. Earlier, however, when these teams met in Abu Dhabi back in 2010, that match ended amid allegations about an agent offering players bribes for manipulation of its outcome by players themselves vs agents hired by News of the World newspaper publishing stories alleging an agent had offered players bribes so bribes from them to influence its outcome – further fuelling controversy around that game and further damaging its outcome.
3rd Test
West Indies defeated Pakistan 202 runs at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad on Tuesday to complete their three and final one-day international and end an eight-match losing run in all forms against them. Shai Hope scored an excellent century to lead West Indies to their win, marking their first bilateral series victory since 1991 and ending an eight-match losing run across all formats against them.
Pakistan openers Azhar Ali and Babar Azam made a powerful start, setting the foundation for an excellent total before rain halted play with them at 34/2. West Indies pace bowler Jayden Seales quickly ran through Pakistan’s lower order to reduce Pakistan’s lead by six wickets by the time play resumed.
Fawad Alam and Faheem Ashraf remained steady after the break, contributing 77 unbroken runs in unison to put Pakistan back in control before their all-out in the final over of the day. Pakistan were eventually dismissed for 273 runs with all out in the final over.
Jason Holder expressed great pride in his team. He believes they displayed tremendous fight – something they hadn’t shown for several games prior to this one – as well as commending players such as Roston Chase and Shannon Gabriel for their contributions. Holder expressed hope for further improvement over time and is looking forward to facing future challenges with excitement.
FanCode TV will air the match live, while live streaming can be found both on its app and website. Toss will take place at 6:30 PM IST before kickoff is at 7 PM IST.
The match should be low-scoring affair; both teams will try to keep the scoreboard ticking over in search of winning opportunities in this series. But Windies batsmen will need to come out fighting if they want any sort of edge out of this match as Pakistan’s bowlers have kept Windies batsmen under immense pressure throughout this series.
