Suryakumar Yadav

Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav scored quickfire fifties as Mumbai Indians posted 215-7 in 20 overs against Lucknow Super Giants at Wankhede.

Jasprit Bumrah’s powerful bowling later caused problems for LSG as MI won by 12 runs; LSG were reduced to 203/8 before Mitch Marsh, Aiden Markram and Digvesh Rathi took five wickets each to help the side win their fifth successive match and move up in points table.

Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram got off to a flying start as they tore through Mumbai’s bowling attack for an early lead. Marsh and Markram combined for three fifty-plus opening partnerships this season and another here; sharing an outstanding 75-run opening stand before Markram was trapped attempting to lift Chahar short ball, before eventually being run out by Chahar himself trying to lift short deliveries off Chahar during powerplay 2.

Prince, making his return from injury, delivered a fuller ball in the third over that was hit with a spongy bounce to avoid batsman attempts to loft it over short third man and fall short of short third man’s mark. Marsh hit back though by hitting him over forward square leg for a 95-meter six.

Prince returned to his front foot and successfully hit the stumps with a fuller delivery, removed the bails off middle stump and struck again in fourth over with another fuller ball that hit Jacks under the bat and was hit to short third man for another strikeout.

Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya had made life tough for Ayush Badoni and David Miller in the middle order batting position, which depended heavily on them to score fifty plus runs and help slow the run rate down. And both batsmen did just that – scoring key fifties-plus runs and helping slow the rate of scoring considerably.

Badoni and Miller quickly overtook LSG after an initially slow start with some late cameos from Naman Dhir (35 off 19) and debutant Corbin Bosch (22/14).

These duo accelerated towards the end, including some key contributions from Naman Dhir (35 off 19) and debutant Corbin Bosch (22/14), to ensure LSG’s lower order fell apart under pressure – Ayush Badoni being dismissed trying to hook a ball off Bumrah to long-off; while mistimed reverse sweep against Bumrah was caught by wicketkeeper as well.

Ryan Rickelton

Rivalry between these two sides remains in its infancy, with Ekana Cricket Stadium holding an overwhelming advantage. But this won’t stop both sides from engaging in an exciting contest on Friday at Ekana Cricket Stadium.

South African Ryan Rickelton will be one of the key players to keep an eye on in this match. A top-order batsman and wicket keeper, Rickelton is best known for his powerful hitting and impressive batting style – having scored several centuries during his career so far!

Additionally, Rickelton has represented Proteas T20Is as well as T20 Champions Trophy teams and currently forms part of their T20 Champions Trophy squad.

MI Cape Town’s top scorer during the 2024 SA20 season for MI Cape Town was considered a turning point in his career, earning him selection into South Africa’s T20 World Cup squad; unfortunately he did not participate in any games during that tournament.

His performances in the List A domestic challenge in 2022-23 led to his ODI debut in March 2023. Prior to de Kock’s retirement, he served as his understudy; but since his arrival he has gradually been introduced into the team.

Mumbai Indians have overcome an uneven start to the campaign by winning four of their last five matches and look set to add to that total against LSG. Rohit Sharma is back to his best, Trent Boult is performing impressively at death overs, and Jasprit Bumrah remains unstoppable as ever.

Lucknow Super Giants have yet to win a match this season and find themselves languishing at the bottom of the table.

Their middle order has struggled, particularly Rishabh Pant and David Miller; making their bowling unit even weaker. Their last match, where they attempted to chase down a target of 200 runs but fell short by 68 runs, marked their maiden defeat of 2017.

Naman Dhir

As the Indian Premier League kicks into gear, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are set to look to exploit their home advantage against Mumbai Indians (MI). This matchup at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium promises an exhilarating contest.

LSG will look to improve on their poor start in this season, having won only one out of their first six matches. Their star-studded lineup should help them overcome this disadvantage; Nicholas Pooran will likely spearhead their batting effort alongside Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton before Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar serve as key bowlers for MI.

MI will look to build on their momentum following their win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), as their top order has been performing well under Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma’s leadership. Additionally, David Miller, Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran will all play key roles in their run chase.

Even after losing two early wickets, Naman Dhir stepped up to help MI chase down 204 at Wankhede Stadium. The youngster scored 21 runs off Akash Deep’s over to ignite MI’s counterattack – something he will hope to do again against LSG.

This 25-year-old all-rounder hails from Punjab in the domestic circuit and has shown himself to be an impressive all-rounder this season. MI picked him up at auction at his base price of INR 20 lakh for IPL 2024, where he has made an immediate impactful impression for them as their captain, hitting several sixes while breaking partnerships at key moments in games.

Corbin Bosch

Bosch, son of former South African cricketer Tertius Bosch, made his Under-19 World Cup debut in Dubai on his father’s 14th death anniversary. A talented all-rounder who excels in playing middle-order positions. In 2023 he toured Sri Lanka as part of South Africa A team where he featured in 3 List A games and two first class matches.

At home in the next summer, he was called into the ODI squad as an injury replacement for Ottneil Baartman and then received his maiden Test call-up against Pakistan on Boxing Day.

An all-rounder with exceptional T20 bowling ability (both pace and spin), he is also an effective batsman – joining MI Cape Town during their inaugural SA20 League participation and helping them claim victory for themselves.
