Kohli became India’s ODI and Test captains in 2021 and 2018, respectively. Under his direction, India won the 2021 Asia Cup and advanced to the final of 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup – testaments to his key role in elevating India as one of the dominant forces of modern cricket.
Shikhar Dhawan first came to international notice in October 2011 after scoring an extraordinary century against South Africa in a T20I, yet his real breakthrough occurred during the ICC Champions Trophy in June 2013 where he cemented himself on the international scene and established himself as an integral member of India’s limited-overs side and is India’s most prolific hitter in ODIs. Recently he was honored with a three-year contract extension at Delhi Daredevils to demonstrate this laudable success in limited-overs cricket.
Australia: Aaron Finch (Captain), Pat Cummins
Pat Cummins is an Australian right-arm fast bowler who has amassed more than 500 international wickets during his 25-year international career. Considered one of the finest modern pacemen, Cummins was recently honored as all-rounder of the year at Allan Border Medal awards ceremony.
He was the youngest member of Australia’s 2025 ICC World Cup final squad and captained an ODI series against South Africa later that year.
Additionally, he earned Test selection during a tour to England, taking 23 wickets as they retained the Ashes 4-0 that summer.
However, it remains to be seen how long selectors will keep him as captain for both formats. Cricket Australia had historically been wary of giving two captains responsibility for leading both formats simultaneously; preferring instead giving each captain their own specific role within white-ball format teams.
As 2019-20 is set to be an action-packed season, selectors will be watching Cummins closely to gauge his responses to his increased workload. He has indicated his openness to a rotation policy for ODIs; therefore he would be open to sitting out some series for someone else if necessary. It seems likely this year will follow this trajectory with three ODI series against England scheduled in November before an ambitious home summer of up to 15 Test matches in eight months.
Usman Khawaja
Usman Khawaja, born in Islamabad and immigrating with his family to Australia at four, became one of the first players of Pakistani heritage to represent Australia internationally in international cricket. Additionally, he holds both commercial and instrument pilot licenses.
Khawaja has played in 115 Test matches and 129 ODIs for Australia over his career, notable for his ability to strike long-ranging sixes and score big centuries. In total he has amassed 16 centuries with five double centuries. Against South Africans at Adelaide in 2011 he recorded his best innings, scoring an unbeaten 188 score.
Khawaja was an instrumental member of Queensland’s 2013-14 Ryobi One-Day Cup team and earned man of the match honors in the final. Additionally, he captained his state in first-class cricket before regularly representing Sydney Thunder in Big Bash League cricket matches.

He is also an excellent fielder, capable of taking wickets off short deliveries and being an integral member of Australia’s ODI side during the recent Ashes series – taking several key wickets himself during that series – but has struggled with injuries – though when fit he remains an effective force – eventually being purchased by Mumbai Indians in the 2020 IPL auction for 2.2 crore.
Mitchell Starc
Mitchell Starc is one of the world’s most exciting left-arm fast bowlers, combining sheer speed with an ability to generate reverse swing and becoming one of Australia’s premier attacking weapons in all forms of cricket. A member of Australia’s World Cup winning squad in 2023 and also appearing in both ODI and T20I finals.
Starc excels at doing what many can’t see: from rigorous gym sessions and meticulous recovery regimens, to making subtle modifications in his deliveries that jar batsmen, all without drawing much notice from fans or peers alike.

Matt Renshaw
Matt Renshaw is an Australian batsman. He made his Test debut as an opening batsman against Sri Lanka in November 2016, before later featuring for Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Strikers during Australia’s 2022-2023 Big Bash League campaign. Renshaw also represents Queensland in domestic first-class cricket matches.
India has always been an impressive team at home, but it wasn’t until the 1990s when they truly became unbeatable with players like Bishan Singh Bedi and Sunil Gavaskar as spinners as well as fast bowlers such as Anil Kumble and Jasprit Bumrah as fast bowlers.
