Lamar Jackson
Lamar Jackson delivered on his expectations in his inaugural regular-season start as Baltimore’s starting quarterback, making two touchdown throws and running for one as part of 33 attempts for 394 yards completed completing. Unfortunately he also threw an interception and was sacked twice – an impressive performance indeed!
Jackson and his wide receivers quickly took advantage of Bills secondary’s injury-riddled roster to beat them handily, with DeAndre Hopkins scoring his inaugural touchdown as a Raven thanks to an eye-catching one-handed grab during the third quarter; fellow newcomer Zay Flowers making an impactful first impression by reeling in seven passes for 143 yards.
Henry set a team record with 237 yards rushing and demonstrated his ability to beat back time. On a second-quarter play involving fake handoff, he ran one that went wrong, sending safety Cole Bishop flying before rebounding away from Nate Wiggins who dived for him.
At one point early in the fourth quarter, Allen made his only misstep when he fumbled a kickoff return, which was recovered by Ed Oliver and Terrel Bernard at Baltimore’s 30 yard line. Allen led them on an 80-yard drive that resulted in Matt Prater scoring on a 32-yard field goal attempt.
The final drive by the Bills was even more remarkable as they completed nine consecutive throws – including an impressive 66-yard pass to Josh Palmer and 33-yard completion to Tyler Kroft – before Prater kicked his field goal to give them a 41-40 advantage with less than three minutes remaining, sparking celebration at Highmark Stadium.
Derrick Henry
On Sunday night, Henry faced high expectations – and delivered. His only blemish was an 8:37 remaining in-game fumble but still managed to contribute towards one of the most unlikely comebacks ever witnessed in sports. Henry finished the game with 169 yards and two touchdowns and has passed Hall-of-Famer Jim Brown as the sixth leading rusher in NFL history with 2,662 career rushing yards – this feat would not have happened 20 years ago!
Henry is one of the main reasons for the Bills’ successful run game. With his ability to make big plays at any moment and an integral role on any successful offense, Henry led both rushing and scoring while being selected to Pro Bowl last season.
Henry began scoring early in the second quarter when he took a handoff and followed Zaire Mitchell-Paden’s outstanding block before breaking through the line to run into the end zone for his first touchdown of the game. Later in that quarter, Jackson provided another shovel pass touchdown that brought Henry even further downfield for more points.
Josh Allen found Jackson for a 30-yard touchdown that reduced Baltimore’s lead to 40-35 and set up Matt Prater’s game-winning field goal as time expired. With 1:26 remaining, Allen drove Bills all the way inside Baltimore 10-yard line before setting up Prater’s shot at success as time expired.
On the other side of the ball, Buffalo’s defense was underwhelming in this game. Their pass rush failed to pressure Josh Allen effectively and their secondary was often breached – it will be interesting to see whether this is something the team can improve moving forward.
The Bills defense was able to force four punts and three turnovers during this game, yet were unable to convert any into points for Buffalo. Their lack of production from their defense is worrisome; they will need to make significant strides forward in order to compete for a playoff berth.
Marvin Jones
Baltimore was the first team ever to lose an NFL game where they scored 40 or more points and ran for 235 yards until September 7, 2025, when they suffered their defeat to Philadelphia on September 7. A missed extra point, fumble with three minutes left, and two failed two-point conversion attempts turned what should have been an easy road victory into an unlikely loss despite effective play from Lamar Jackson (394 yards, two touchdowns thrown), Derrick Henry recording over 100 career rushing touchdowns (108 total in his career) despite these miscues.
Jones hails from Etiwanda, California. Before being selected in the fifth round of 2012 NFL Draft by Cincinnati Bengals he played wide receiver for California Golden Bears before also playing for Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Willie Snead
Snead has both played and coached at both high school and collegiate levels, most recently serving two years at Glades Central Community HS in Florida, helping the team advance to back-to-back district finals before winning state. He has held head coaching roles in Michigan and California before currently acting as offensive quality control coach for the Denver Broncos.
The Bills pulled themselves back from an early deficit in the fourth quarter to win their home opener 41-40. Running back Zay Flowers delivered his best performance of the season by catching seven passes for 143 yards – scoring on a 23-yard catch and run following strong blocks by left tackle Ronnie Stanley and center Tyler Linderbaum. Meanwhile, their defense foiled numerous late comeback attempts from Baltimore led by former Baltimore coach John Harbaugh.
Lamar Jackson completed 21 of 33 passes successfully, throwing Willie Snead a 22-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Snead then caught two more scores from Jackson; 14 yards in the second and 6 in the third, as well as running twice for 15 yards.
Willie Lee Snead Jr. was an NFL player himself before marrying Sofia; their two children are Taylor and Isaiah. Snead went on to star for Ball State from 2011-2013 as a wide receiver; finishing second on their all-time receiving yards list during that time. Additionally, during his 10-year NFL career (with New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders and Carolina Panthers among others), 281 catches for 3,445 yards were made along with 16 touchdown receptions made against opponents from Baltimore Ravens (all on this).
Snead is in his first season as an NFL coach, serving as the Broncos’ offensive quality control coach. Reunited with Saints coach Sean Payton whom Snead played under during three seasons at Big Easy; additionally he has won multiple state championships as a high school and college coach at Glades Central Community HS in West Palm Beach, Florida.
