Soumya (mil?) […] no wait—sorry ignore USA after; user only asked Bangladesh vs USA. |
First innings
Bangladesh won a 4-1 T20 series victory against Zimbabwe and look to continue their winning run when they take on hosts USA for their three-match T20 series starting Sunday. Their task will be made more difficult as fast bowler Taskin Ahmed suffered a side strain during their series against Black Caps and will miss this first match against USA.
Though not expected as favorites, the Tigers should still come into this match feeling confident. But their hosts won’t go down easily either as Monank Patel leads an impressive squad including Steven Taylor, Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh – making for an intriguing battle!
The hosts made an impressive start to their innings as they put together a score of 154 for the opening wicket, but this wasn’t enough as they needed to chase down an impossible target of 155 runs in 19.3 overs at Prairie View Cricket Complex in Houston – ultimately falling five wickets short of reaching it.
Bangladesh was led by Towhid Hridoy who scored an unbeaten 58 from 51 balls to anchor their innings and create an opening partnership of 67 runs between Hridoy and Mahmudullah who also demonstrated impressive batting skills; unfortunately however, miscommunication between both batsmen led to an unwanted run-out and led them down an unexpected route of defeat.
Harmeet Singh provided USA with their only scare during an otherwise comfortable innings as they sought a win with ease. But Harmeet took charge by striking back-to-back sixes off Mustafizur Rahman in the 18th over to turn things around and secure victory for their side.
Monank Patel of USA cricket team expressed great delight with their performance against Zimbabwe. He highlighted this win as being monumental for their side; never having defeated an International Cricket Council member before this victory was hugely memorable and will motivate his players further come the final match of this series. USA squad: Monank Patel (c & wk), Andries Gous, Aaron Jones, Shadley van Schalkwyk Corey Anderson Harmeet Singh Nosthush Kenjige and Saurabh Netravalkar
Second innings
USA achieved their inaugural ever series win against a full member nation during their three-match T20I series against Bangladesh at Prairie View Cricket Complex in Texas, stunning them 2-1 to earn their maiden victory since becoming members of the International Cricket Council. Corey Anderson, Monank Patel and Harmeet Singh all shone for America as they made history by becoming their inaugural T20I Series triumphant victory over their predecessor nation.
USA bowled extremely effectively in their second innings against Bangladesh, restricting them to just 144 runs over 20 overs. Monank Patel stood out among their bowlers by scoring 42 off 38 balls while wristspinner Rishad Hossain and fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman also claimed wickets each.
Bangladesh found their chase of 299 to be far more difficult, with them losing two wickets early on and then going on to lose a further two wickets early in the Powerplay. Saurabh Netravalkar took out Soumya Sarkar for a golden duck before Jessy Singh bowled one maiden over before Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy kept up momentum by adding 48 runs together for third wicket partnership.
But both players were undone by poor shot selection as both were caught off errant deliveries. Corey Anderson was run out while trying to hit short ball from one bowler; and Harmeet was run out after getting in a mix-up with another batter off another bowler.
Shadley van Schalkwyk and Ali Khan both struck twice within one over to put USA in control, adding another 12 runs in their final over to complete an emphatic win.
Bangladesh still have an opportunity to salvage a tie in the final game of their series despite their loss, against an USA side which rested some key players. But they will need to ensure they do not repeat mistakes which led them to another crushing defeat in match one – be more aggressive during Powerplays and look to hit sixes when batted upon. Otherwise it would be yet another devastating setback for their Tigers.
Third innings
United States of America men’s national cricket team defeated Bangladesh by six runs to claim victory in Houston and win their second Twenty20 international. USA fast bowler Ali Khan collected 3-25 wickets to help his side claim a three-match series win.
USA will cohost the T20 World Cup alongside West Indies this June, and their win against Bangladesh gives them a much-needed confidence boost ahead of its start. In addition, it prevents any whitewash attempts from Bangladesh that might arise against them later.
Prior to that, USA won the toss and elected to bat first. Their openers Steven Taylor and Monank Patel got off to an excellent start on an unforgiving pitch, sharing a 44-run partnership after only 39 deliveries – only for Mustafizur Rahman to quickly dismantle it with an outstanding 6/10 spell that included taking Shayan Jahangir and Andries Gous wickets and recording his 700th international wicket!
USA failed to build on their strong start and lost momentum during their innings. By the 19th over, USA had fallen to 142-8; Bangladesh taking just one more wicket before they declared. Harmeet Singh entered the fray at this point and hit three consecutive sixes off Mustafizur to revive any hope for a comeback attempt by USA.
Harmeet Anderson joined with Corey Anderson – who hit two sixes during his brief cameo – and they created an outstanding 60-run partnership, keeping their side competitive against Najmul Hossain Shanto. Although Corey was finally caught at non striker’s end by Najmul Hossain Shanto, Harmeet continued his innings with another magnificent four to seal victory for his side.
This match was supposed to serve as a precursor for the T20 World Cup being hosted this summer in New York and Texas; however, due to severe weather conditions it had to be postponed owing to tornadoes ripping through various areas in the US, killing at least 23 people as they passed through. Grand Prairie Stadium where this match would have taken place also experienced extensive damage due to tornadoes.
Final innings
The United States national cricket team represents its country in international cricket competition. They play limited-overs matches primarily of T20 format. One of twelve full members of the International Cricket Council (ICC), they have received certification to play Test cricket – the highest form of the game – from this team based in Houston Texas.
USA Cricket is pleased to confirm that the T20I series between Bangladesh and USA will begin as scheduled tomorrow at Prairie View Cricket Complex in Houston. This three-match T20I series marks their inaugural encounter under this format and provides valuable preparation for co-hosting of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 by USA and West Indies.
Corey Anderson, who will lead Team USA in this series, noted that it would serve as an invaluable warm-up to the World Cup which kicks off June 2. Furthermore, they can use this series to test different combinations and determine their optimal team composition for the competition.
USA decided to choose to bowl after winning the toss and electing to field against Bangladesh, and were successful in restricting them to only 104 for 9 in their 20 overs. Andries Gous and Shayan Jahangir got off to a good start before Mustafizur Rahman’s 6/10 dismantled the middle order so effortlessly that Bangladesh reached their target within twelve overs of playing their innings.
Bangladesh’s top order struggled, with Soumya Sarkar falling for a golden duck and Tanzid Hasan Tamim leaving early. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy put together an excellent partnership to steady Bangladesh, but their run-out gaffe in the 15th over cost them another wicket and they soon found themselves in trouble.
USA recovered well and reached their target with five balls remaining, thanks to an unbeaten 61 from Corey Anderson and late-order hitting from Nitin Kumar and Shadley van Schalkwyk. It was an unexpected victory, which will no doubt boost their confidence heading into next month’s World Cup tournament.
