Cricket in the United States
Cricket may be less well known than baseball in America, but its presence here dates back to 1709. Newspaper reports of its first match were first reported back then! Although less well-known than popular American sports like basketball or football, cricket still enjoys its own dedicated following; victories at major ICC tournaments like World Cup or Champions Trophy tournaments are met with joyous applause by Indian supporters in America.
Cricket in the United States is experiencing remarkable growth. In 2024, America hosted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup tournament – drawing international cricket to stadiums in Dallas and Florida and drawing global media coverage – as it introduced mainstream Americans to this exciting form of play.
It marked an inflection point in its development; showing not just that America can perform as an associate member nation, but is capable of structured competitive performance on an international stage.
The US’s rise has provided many advantages for the International Cricket Council (ICC). It has strengthened the legitimacy of cricket within America, making sponsors and investors more willing to fund it; furthermore, its participation in ICC tournaments helps develop it globally.
Recently, USACA has struggled with financial and governance issues that required suspension by the International Cricket Council in 2025. Following that suspension, a new board under the name USA Cricket was created as its national governing body by ICC; USA Cricket also administers Minor League cricket competition, the highest domestic level within United States cricket.
The USA’s success at events such as the T20 World Cup has helped elevate cricket in this country. Formerly considered an “empty frill” or glorified baseball game, cricket now represents an integral part of ICC globalization strategy – with cricket growing exponentially here proving a good sign for its future development and providing opportunities for sponsorship expansion, grassroots participation at scale, etc.

Renowned for its depth in all formats of play as well as strategic tactics, its leadership has included Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev who dominated both Tests and ODIs prior to Sachin Tendulkar and Anil Kumble joining later that decade further cemented India’s standing among world cricketing nations.
India are widely regarded as one of the best teams in international cricket despite their inconsistent track record over recent years, with their victories at major ICC tournaments like Champions Trophy causing tremendous excitement among Indian supporters.
USA recorded their inaugural T20I victory against Cayman Islands in 2021, followed by their maiden ODI victory three years later against Ireland. At the 2024 T20 World Cup co-hosted by USA, they became the first Associate nation ever to beat a Full Member (Bangladesh).

India’s cricket team
India national cricket team is one of the world’s most beloved teams, playing both Test and One Day International matches simultaneously and ranking first in both formats.
India have won more tests than any other team while their record ODI wins exceed any other side’s and they boast one of the highest winning margins in single ODI matches ever! Their players include Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag; furthermore they boast great spin bowlers such as Bishan Singh Bedi and Ravichandran Ashwin for adding extra spin.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is India’s governing body for cricket. Established in 1929 and representing their country at the International Cricket Council (ICC), BCCI boasts many sponsors and is amongst one of the richest sports organizations worldwide – it recently sold media rights to Nimbus for $612 Million! Currently President Mithun Manhas and Secretary Devajit Saikia hold these roles respectively.
India initially struggled to become a dominant force in Test cricket until becoming an independent nation in 1930 and 1940. Once independent, India saw remarkable momentum during the 1930s and 1940s; winning its inaugural series away against New Zealand in 1967-68 was particularly impressive on home ground. Meanwhile, legendary spin bowlers such as Bishan Singh made waves.
Indian cricket was a powerhouse during the 1980s and 90s in ODIs, winning numerous trophies such as three ICC Champions Trophies. Later under Sourav Ganguly and later Sachin Tendulkar’s leadership, India would go on to reach multiple victories including an appearance at World Cup final 2007.
Recently, MS Dhoni has led India’s cricket team. As the only captain to have won all three ICC white-ball trophies he is beloved among Indian citizens for his ability to motivate players while deftly managing tricky situations.
United States’ cricket team
The United States Cricket Team represents their nation in international cricket competition. Competing as an Associate Member of the ICC and earning ODI status in 2019 after strong performances at World Cup Qualifiers, USA Cricket governs them domestically while overseeing development pathways and international participation.
Since 2010, USA cricket has made significant strides, moving from an underachieving association into an emerging competitive side with structured leagues and improved international results. Their rise as one of the world’s premier commercial sports markets has serious ramifications for global expansion of cricket as they unlock broadcast value, sponsorship expansion opportunities and grassroots participation at scale.
Though the USA has played international matches since 1844, it wasn’t until 2004 that an International Cricket Council-approved national cricket team was created. This squad mainly competed against Canada in the annual Auty Cup and with visiting teams from other nations.
Over time however, USCA faced repeated disciplinary action from the ICC until finally it was suspended altogether in 2021 and replaced with USA Cricket which took responsibility for further developing cricket within America.
In 2024, USA Cricket sent shockwaves through cricket by defeating Pakistan and qualifying for the final round of World Cup Super Over. Their performance marked an historic first: they became the first side to ever beat a Full Member nation in T20I cricket! Since then they have defeated Ireland at home as well as Bangladesh and Oman in World Cricket League Division Two tournaments.
The current USA Cricket squad boasts several experienced and gifted players. At its heart is a powerful middle order led by Nitish Kumar and Corey Anderson — two powerful batsmen that anchor innings with aggressive hitting and valuable partnerships.
Additionally, the team’s bowling strength comes from skilled off-spinners as well as disciplined fast-medium bowlers. In the India National Cricket Team Vs United States National Cricket Team Match Scorecard, the USA squad displayed impressive balance, determination, and growing international experience against one of cricket’s strongest teams.
