Tests

At Trent Bridge, England and their Test series against New Zealand hang by a thread. What began as a promising pitch on Thursday has since turned drastically unfavorable on Saturday as England were forced to scratch deep for runs as New Zealand took an unassailable lead in runs scored.

Jofra Archer’s early wickets galvanised the crowd on an exceptionally humid afternoon, and England batsmen struggled to adjust to his blistering pace.

Both Joe Root and Jacob Bethell were caught out lbw by him with the keeper up, marking yet another instance in four innings when England captain Joe Root has been bowled lbw by quick bowlers operating with an upkeeper keeper-less bowler operating with leg-before bowling action.

England’s hopes rested with Harry Brook, who received a standing ovation when he returned to the crease. Unfortunately for England though, Brook was soon out again, caught behind off a bowler who had replaced Blair Tickner and bowled by an over-throw that struck back into his stumps.

Zak Foulkes, who had taken over for Tickner due to concussion issues, took three more wickets before tea to put England under considerable strain. Ben Stokes fell first lbw as he attempted to hit long-on boundary; next came Daryl Mitchell being dismissed via edge off Emilio Gay’s bowling; leaving England with an uphill struggle ahead on day five.

ODIs

New Zealand women made an impressive comeback to defeat India women by 17 runs in Cardiff after starting slowly. Alice Capsey hit an unbeaten 45 and Amy Jones contributed with 27 runs, giving the White Ferns an achievable target to defend on an outfield made even slower by persistent rain.

Rosemary Mair and Bree Illing took full advantage of the wet conditions for New Zealand, finding ample movement off a slow pitch. Meanwhile, England’s batsmen struggled on an unsmooth surface made more slippery by morning rain. A lengthy break meant play was limited to 33 overs per side.

Heather Knight fell for 28 in her final ODI appearance as she edged to a diving catcher at long-on and Freya Kemp failed with the bat. New Zealand’s middle order played proactiveally to meet their required run rate target with Bell taking control in her first over back after injury by dismissing Suzie Bates for 12 and trapping Georgia Plimmer and captain Melie Kerr in front. Brooke Halliday and Maddy Green held firm on a difficult pitch by adding 57 runs for their fourth wicket partnership.

New Zealand were already at 67-1 when rain interrupted play in the 11th over, remaining there throughout. England gained some hope when Jofra Archer was bowled by a delivery that hit leg stump and skidded past, only for it to be called off shortly afterwards with England at 68-3. Jofra’s replacement Jamie Overton quickly claimed his first England wicket when he bowled Young lbw using an off-stray delivery while Wood nipped out Ravindra to reduce them down 48-4 before Mitchell and Latham combined to rebuild their innings with an innings partnership of 104 runs between them.

T20Is

England were set a daunting target of 185 in New Zealand’s backyard and after an inauspicious start they were reduced to 107/7 in the 12th over. After an incredible late fightback led by Sam Curran (player of the match) they managed to reach their target with eight balls remaining; Will Jacks made hard hitting contributions while wicketkeeper Sam Tichfield produced three sixes in his innings as support players.

England’s batting was in disarray without Nat Sciver-Brunt; Heather Knight and Maia Bouchier struggled to establish momentum, while Freya Kemp and Dani Gibson could not maintain an effective strike rate. With World Cup coming soon, both Kemp and Gibson should have been promoted up the order to provide power hitting options for England.

Bree Illing made an excellent start to her bowling spell by bowling straight and tidy during the New Zealand National Cricket Team Vs England Cricket Team Match Scorecard clash. Georgia Plimmer caught Lea Tahuhu off one of Illing’s first deliveries with ease, and her next over proved even more successful as Melie Kerr was dismissed with the very first ball.

Issy Wong then responded by smashing a boundary through the covers, giving the hosts hope they could build on their comeback in the final match against New Zealand, secure the series victory, and extend their winning streak in T20Is to three matches. The New Zealand National Cricket Team Vs England Cricket Team Match Scorecard reflected a fiercely contested encounter, with both teams producing impressive performances in all departments.
