ODI
One Day Internationals (ODIs) are limited-overs cricket matches played between two international teams of varying status. As the highest standard in limited-overs cricket, an ODI match may last up to seven hours with each over having an equal value and fixed number of overs.
This format has become the centerpiece of tournaments such as World Cup every four years as well as other major matches; they are overseen by the International Cricket Council (ICC) which assigns points based on factors including total score achieved, wickets taken and runs scored from each match according to an ICC formula that measures total score plus wickets taken vs runs scored and runs scored from every overs played out.
ODIs are played between teams of 11 players. The captain of the side that wins the toss decides whether their side bats or fields first; earlier on this number varied between 40 to 60 overs per side but since mid-1990 it has stayed at 50 overs per side. Powerplay restrictions limit how many fielders may be outside of thirty yard circle to prevent teams from setting wholly defensive fields; during third powerplay any type of fields may be set.
Shamar Joseph led West Indies to a historic victory at The Gabba. This marks their first Test win in Australia since 1997 and Mitchell Starc achieved 350 Test wickets, just trailing Dennis Lillee’s record by one wicket. Justin Greaves and Kavem Hodge made their debuts for West Indies while Steven Smith of Australia recorded his 450th ODI run during this matchup.
T20I
The Twenty20 International (T20I) format of cricket is an exciting twenty overs per side match played among international teams recognized by the International Cricket Council (ICC). A mandatory powerplay occurs within the first six overs of an innings; and on October 24th 2011 England were named top team in this inaugural rankings list for this shortest format of play.
West Indies and Australia met for a three-match T20I series in 2024, where Shamar Joseph’s bowling prowess helped the Windies claim a 2-1 win to achieve their first test victory against Australia since 1997.
The series was notable for Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge and Shamar Joseph’s debuts; Mitchell Starc also reached 350 Test wickets to close in on Dennis Lillee. Although fortunes fluctuated for both teams during competition, highlights included Starc’s record-breaking haul and Glenn Maxwell’s century.
On 28 January at Gabba stadium in Brisbane the second T20I of this series concluded – thanks to Joseph’s outstanding bowling performance the Windies became the first team ever to reach 10000 ODI wins whilst breaking numerous records along the way in the West Indies Cricket Team Vs Australian Men’s Cricket Team Match Scorecard.
