South Africa made better use of the wet conditions on a cloudy night in Cardiff than England did, as highlighted in the England Cricket Team Vs South Africa National Cricket Team Match Scorecard. Aiden Markram led by example with 28 off 14 balls before the young bowlers took over.
Dewald Brevis, Donovan Ferreira, and Tristan Stubbs all hit sixes while wickets fell regularly, reflecting South Africa’s dominance in the England Cricket Team Vs South Africa National Cricket Team Match Scorecard.

England vs South Africa Test Series
England fans used to look forward to exciting Test series against South Africa when five-match Test series were the norm for visiting teams, such as their famous 2-2 tie in 1998 and legendary victory at The Oval the following year in 2003 that sealed their 2-1 triumph. Since South Africa last visited England for such an extended series, hosting them now may encourage other teams to make greater efforts at playing here.
This tour includes three ODIs and one Twenty20 International at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, SuperSport Park in Centurion and Newlands in Cape Town.
Our travel experts are also on-hand to offer full itineraries which include match tickets, hotels, flights transfers and excursions – plus professional support on-tour from our team of travel specialists.
The ECB plans to reintroduce five-match Test series against countries other than Australia and India, starting with Pakistan and South Africa as potential recipients.
The goal of this initiative is to generate greater interest in this format of cricket and draw in new young players into playing it; additionally, more teams may consider touring England for longer series, creating stronger bonds between English counterparts and helping to further establish England as one of the premier test nations worldwide.
England vs South Africa ODI Series
England and South Africa will then play three one-day matches between December 2026 and January 2027 to close out their respective seasons and build momentum towards the 2027 World Cup.
The Proteas will aim to win their first home ODI series since 1998, while England are hoping to improve on their tenth-place finish from last World Cup cycle.
The series will consist of both home and away matches; its third and final fixture taking place at Headingley.
Ben Stokes will likely miss this series, making the Proteas favourites; however, England have recently assembled a revamped squad and hope to make amends for their poor showing at last World Cup.
England currently sit in fifth place on the ICC ODI rankings, having only won two of their last five matches. Australia and India both defeated them during their previous overseas ODIs; England will hope to get some revenge when facing South Africa.
Temba Bavuma’s injury has forced him out of England tour, so Rilee Rossouw and Ollie Robinson have been brought back into the squad as replacements. If England can maintain its recent momentum, however, they could take control of series.
After an underwhelming start to their series against Australia, England recovered strongly with a solid performance at Chester-le-Street in the second ODI.
A remarkable innings from Joe Root led England to reach 304 for 5, with Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan also contributing valuable runs at the end of the innings.
South Africa took control of the game, dominating until midway. Breetkze, Stubbs and Markram all played key roles in helping South Africa reach an impressive total of 330 for 8 with ease.
After an intense battle at The Oval, South Africa won their third One-Day International with an emphatic victory thanks to Jofra Archer’s stunning 6-41 and Lungi Ngidi’s two wickets within six overs – key contributions by Jofra.
England struggled as their batsmen failed to sustain a competitive score while Jofra helped seal an innings and 77 run victory for their side against England’s lackluster batsman.
England vs South Africa T20 Series
England’s planned three-match T20 series in South Africa in January has been scrapped due to a scheduling clash with the domestic T20 franchise tournament SA20. This is the latest indication of the growing primacy of T20 cricket over all other formats in South African domestic cricket. England will instead play three ODIs in Johannesburg, Centurion and Cape Town on 10-12 January.
Jofra Archer, Kwena Maphaka and Lhuan-dre Pretorius – who all played for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025 – will lead the side in the shorter white-ball games.
The teen trio have all made their mark in the T20 format this year, with Maphaka becoming the youngest player from a full-member nation to take four wickets in a T20I when he took 4/20 against Australia in May.
The series will be broadcast live on the FanCode app and website in India. Alternatively, the matches will be available to stream live on Sony Sports and Sony Ten 2 in the UK. England and South Africa have met 26 times in T20Is, with the Proteas leading the head-to-head 13-12.
The first day of the third Test washed out in a mark of respect to Her Majesty the Queen, who passed away on Thursday. A statement from the ECB said that a decision would be made regarding further play on Saturday.
South Africa won the match by 90 runs. It was the first time that England had lost a home T20 international against South Africa since April 2024.
Jonny Bairstow top scored for the hosts with a record 16-ball hundred, but their bowlers were unable to contain the South Africa batsmen. Jos Buttler, Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali were also on the scoresheet for England.
England vs South Africa T20I Series
On Sunday due to rain at Trent Bridge, England and South Africa’s third and final T20 international was called off without even one ball being bowled, levelling their series at 2-1; South Africa having taken victory at Old Trafford while England prevailing at Chester-le-Street.
As this was the second T20I in three that washed out, the ECB has confirmed they will explore their options for future fixtures, including possible alternative dates and times for them. They have also encouraged fans to check local weather forecasts before travelling.
Due to poor weather, England and South Africa will reunite in December and January for a full white-ball series starting December 10th.
Both sides will play three Tests, three ODIs, three T20s – Jofra Archer, Kwena Maphaka and Lhuan-dre Pretorius are returning from playing for Rajasthan Royals squad in IPL 2025 for England to boost them!
South Africa will miss Temba Bavuma as his toe injury prevents him from participating. Instead, Rilee Rossouw has been included as his replacement.
The England-South Africa T20I series takes place from 10-14 September at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, Old Trafford in Manchester and Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Live streaming and telecast are available through FanCode in India for the three matches in this three-match series.
Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes will be hoping to impress England selectors ahead of a possible World Cup selection this October.
Meanwhile South African batsmen led by AB de Villiers have been on an outstanding run and appear as favourites to claim victory in this series.
Timing issues during international tours caused by SA20 tournament have caused issues, with South Africa’s Proteas having to send a depleted squad on tour to New Zealand due to contractually obliged centrally-contracted players having to participate in that domestic tournament. But South Africa will field their strongest side for T20Is against England with confidence of success!
